Drum to disk conversion

I have a 70 RT with 4 wheel drums and would like to convert to front disc. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced complete kit? I don't need state of the art, just a good setup that would include all the needed parts. Any suggestions????

I will be doing the same to mine.  I have a post in here on this also.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I guess my first question is what you consider reasonably priced?   :dunno:  I did an SSBC conversion in the late spring. Nothing too exotic, although I did upgrade to the slotted rotors. Ther nice thing about it is everything FIT! No grinding , hammering, redrilling or any other fit related problems. My biggest mistake was not getting new brake lines (they looked good?) but the fronts were very uncooperative. This was my fault , not the fault of the kit. And would have cut 2-3 hours off the install time!! So if you're gonna do it, call inline tube for some new lines!   :working:

I put around 800 miles on NIKKI tis past summer and have been very happy with it. There was even a situation where they really got "tested"  and I was REALLY HAPPY with them.  Hope this helps.   :burnout:

I guess somewhere in the $1000 range or there about. What kind of pads are they using and can you get them from anywhere or do you need to go back to SSBC??

Good question, the calipers are the old mustang style design. so I would think NAPA. On the other hand seeing NIKKI'S basically just a cruiser, and only sees good weather (Wisconsin - roll the dice).  Those pads will probly last me 20 years!   :grinyes:.

BTW with the rotor upgrade and shipping I think I was around $1100. If you want exact numbers I can look in her file.

No need to go crazy looking for the exact price. I am looking into that kit and the wildwood one also. I don't know if the wildwood comes with the master cylinder also though. Did you need to replace the prop valve as well?? I need to find out out what type of pads wildwood uses too.

what brand pads does it use?? Are they easily available??

You know, now that I'm thinking about it I believe when I ordered the guy asked me what kind of driving I was doing.  They may have different degrees of pads.  I'm using the stock valve , an additional (and adjustable) valve gets fitted to the line going to the rear. I played with it a bit till I found the setting that felt good to me.  :thumbsup:

I understand that kit comes with a master cyl that will work for either manual or power brakes--am I correct??

I looked at the ssbc site and it comes with a master cylinder.  Most all of the ones I have looked at come with the master cylinder and some will come with a booster as well.  I just want a good setup and not cost an arm and a leg.

Nikki's got manual brakes and I kept her that way. When you order you just tell them your intent. And they send the stuff ,not sure if it's the same master tho... I can tell you it's the old tried and true (dare I say ir GM design) and works quite well.  :cheers:

Thanks for all the insight. Still torn between the SSBC and the Wildwood. I will make some phone calls and see if the Wildwood master cyl fits power and non power in case I want to add a booster someday. I want to replace the master now but also want to leave the option open. I know the SSBC master fits both. But at least it's narrowed down to 2 kits now. Thanks again.

But where do you get replacment pads???? Are they SSBC only???
