    very slick -  a stealth radio!  :2thumbs: 

    I just bought a Sirius Stiletto 2 that I hope works okay with my Alpine unit. Its a CDA-9835  and it uses an external component to interface ipod and external sources. Although considered somewhat of a dinosaur, is still regarded to many as the best unit Alpine has ever made.

    thedodgeboys ..maybe the front face of your radio is different but most are plastic and you can restore the "crome like trimming "with a sharpie silver paint pen, you can find it in any art supply store for couple dollars, you can see good pics on a post by hemi68charger om July 10 07 "detailing the E-body dash".

    I agree to a point but maybe they should ask if you want it restored at the same time and offer that service.

    you know, I don't mind the look of modern-day electronics in my dash as long as I dont have to sacrifice any plastic in doing so. Still I can see owners compulsion with some cars as their interiors are so bone stock OEM perfect inside, an aftermarket radio just sticks out like a sore thumb. $400 will buy a pretty nice radio actually but I have to ask, what guts do they put in it? How's the fidelity?

    I am not sure yet.  But hope to get mine done then could give you some feedback.  I hope that someone else can give feedback on this.  Did you look at the web site?  That might help you.  To me it looked like a solid state board.  There are some pictures on the site that might help you and they will answer an e-mail pretty quick also.  To me I would rather have my dash stock except putting some punch in the radio without putting a new unit in it.  To me the price compairs to a new unit in price and pretty much in punch also.  I hope they do sound really good.

    When I bench tested mine I used some 6x9 speakers from alpine and they had plenty of volume .No distortion and good sound quality as good as my 06 charger.  :cheers:

     Speaker placement is a bigger challenge in a convertible than in a hardtop so you should have plenty of room for a good set of speakers in the back. The dash speakers are the hard ones to work around I trimmed the frame and put some clarions with a good tweeter in place of the stock set. Getting some base in the car without larger speakers is going to be my challenge I thinking a small sub under the passenger seat should help.

    You should be happy with the upgrade as long as you get good speakers. INHO

    I am thinking when I get the new dash pad to get one that has the spaces for three speakers instead of the one that has just the one in the middle.  I do not want to cut up a new dash so just get one that is made that way from the start.  A new speaker shelf is in order also so that will not be a problem.  Not going to cut out the door panels for speakers either.  so will just have to work around that.  Thanks for the update on the sound quality.  I will be using them for sure as soon as I can.  I want the radio to still look stock but really put out a real good sound unlike the original.

    After reading all the posts I think I'm going to go with an almost completly stock setup.  I contacted Gordon Ward about restoration of my AM/8-track and adding an iPod plug.  He responded to my email immediately and that alone was a breath of fresh air.  Here is his response:
    The cost will be $175.00 to repair and refurbish,any cosmetics would be extra.$79.00 for the jack.
    $15.00 return shipping.total $269.00.

    This link is in another post but thought I would drop it again.  He also stated in his email that turn around should be about 5 days.  Not bad.  Turnswitch quoted me a price of almost $500 and that didn't include basic refurbishing and repairing the 8-track.  Gordon will do a basic refurbish and that is included in the quote.  Cosmetics mentioned in the email are missing parts and such.  Since my radio is complete I expect the total qouted to be accurate.  I think I'll try to get the radio out Monday.  I'll keep everyone posted on how it turns out.  Below is a picture of the before, I'll post both before and after when it returns.  I wasn't so concerned about the additional channels and power as some here are.  I probably wont be able to hear the radio while driving anyway.  It's just there to satisfy the purist in me and onlookers and able to play music while parked.  The iPod plug will allow me to play my music and even use a XM system if I like.  Thanks to all for the posts, they really helped me get this done.  I can't tell everyone how much info this site provides.  Especially for a dummy like me.
