Chuck that is a 3 speed motor with a date code of 327th day of 1970 or Nov 23rd, 1970.
You CANNOT run a 3 speed motor with a 2 speed switch. For 70 and 71 cars the correct switch is
variable speed switch and not a 3 speed switch. Variable switches have a rheostat type smooth
action whereas 3 speed switches found on 72-74 e bodies is distinctly 3 positions. You can use the 3
speed switch but it will not be correct for 71.
The linkage for a 2 speed motor and a 3 speed motor is also not the same and CANNOT be interchanged.
The pivot to pivot arm is the same but the pivot to motor arm is different. If you use a 2 speed linkage on a
3 speed motor, you will hear the arm bang up against the cowl on every rotation. Very annoying. You must either
find a correct 3 speed linkage for 70/71 ( 72 and up are different) or modify the 2 speed to a 3 speed style.
I offer that service. 3 speeds will have a large 1 inch hole at the motor location for a specific cam arm.
3 speed linkages have a brass bushing at the end kinda offset. Part numbers for 3 speed linkage arms are:
Pivot to pivot 2822291. Pivot to motor 2822293. Pivots 3431049 and 3431048.
I also restore linkages to brand new including the pivots. Total disassembly/plating and rebuild.
Hope this helped.
Jules
P.S. Sorry I didn't notice this thread had 3 pages already. The linkage posted by plum is a 72 and up captured bushing type. The one in the ebay auction is a 70/71 style.
