This race was in Birmingham, AL. The driver of the car was shot and killed at the scene when he went to aid the person that he ran over. The pedestrian ended up dying as well.

Just another example of why you shouldn't street race.   :nono:  Take it to the track...    :burnout:

We used to "street race". It was never around people, we would go out on the highway and wait for no traffic or go to a rural section. It was pretty much to elude the police but now that I took a spill on my motor scooter after cresting a hill and hitting a pot hole I don't think I will do any street racing. Unless it is the utmost safest, most rural, nicely paved stretch.

I must confess,  I still street race................
But in a uncontrolled manner. :screwy:
But most definetly not around anyone and on the highway real late at night or real early in the morning, close to midnight anyway....... :misbehaving:

I know i know, i shouldn't.  But i have been doing it less & less lately.

I saw this on another forum and thought, "Okay, so they're street racing and all, but why the he!! would someone have a gun with them for this event unless it was to do something malicious?!!!  I read a ton of the responses earlier and it's sad the guy who tried helping the pedestrian was a 36-year old family man.  However, he should have also had more sense to not race with so many people standing in less than stellar spots of the makeshift track.  Supposedly one of the drivers/car owners didn't want to run down the road, claiming there wasn't enough room to run safely, but that was ruled out when someone else equipped with a gun threatened him.  Talk about the wrong crowd to be around a car-related event! ::)

Thats tragic. I used to street race also but as stated before it was always at night on a deserted "quarter mile"
I could not imagine running a fast car around all those spectators  :screwy:

The only time I would ever drive that close to a pedestrian would be in a puddle by a sidewalk to soak'em.  :grinyes:

To be honest with you watching that makes me wanna de-tune my car and give up street racing!!! However that is just simply retarded to run that speed of cars with all those people around..........  do it on closed remote locations :2cents:

I've read a lot of street racing articles in muscle car mags and they say when there is a crowd of people watching on the sides, they should never be ahead of the cars. That way, if one or both cars racing veer off the road, no people are in the way.

I personally knew a guy that got killed in a street race. He was the spotter at the end of the track. One of the cars lost control on the top end and struck the truck the spotter was sitting in killing him. What a stupid waste!!! :banghead:

Wrong in a lot of ways-street racing with people stupidly close(makes both the racers and spectators stupid!) and thugs carrying guns and shooting people to name a couple, think I`ll pass on that scene.
