:roflsmiley:

I dont think I ever remember someone checking if they can "win" 1st before racing someone... If your checking to make sure your car will win before you give it a shot... then you mayswell not race him.... otherwise...

I dont see how its fair having a 7.2 litre to beat up a 5.0 litre... having a 340ci and him sitting on a 308ci.... that will trully test how "good" a Dodge is. (even then you should really be running a 318) SO GO GET HIM!  :poopoke: :poopoke: (poking you in the butt) GO GO GO  :2thumbs:

If the stang has 308 ci then it has been bored .040 over, otherwise it's a 302 which would be more likely. On the other hand very few remaing '89 mustangs are "stock" so my guess would be that it has been modded somewhat. Having owned an '89 5.0 Mustang along with a number of Mopars and FI 'Stangs I would put my money on the Ford. No offense meant, but I have beat quite a few Mopars on the street and track along with taking some of their money with my little 5.0 mustang. I hate to admit it, but my favorite target....Vipers.  :stirpot:

This should be a good race, maybe a driver's race. An '89 mustang with gears, sticky tires and nitrous makes for a mean, cheap combination. If he is truly stock then you should not have too much to worry about unless the kid can flat out drive. :)

I ran a pure stock '89 mustang through my cartest program in drag mode and it computed 15.20@89.57mph in the 1/4. The program is pretty accurate from my experience. The biggest thing that changes the out come is putting drag radials on a car, that can really help as the program did indicate a good amount of wheelspin at launch. Bad news, I do not have a profile for E-Bodies yet. :( I have to create that one.

This will be fun to hear the outcome if the race does happen.

Need more details....

I know your engine isn't stock but if it were a stock Mustang 5.0 against a stock '73 Challenger with a 340, I say the Mustang will win.  0-60, the Challenger is an 8 second car while the stock 5.0 Mustang I think will do it in 6 seconds.

Depending on your mods, condition of the engines, etc  :blah:, it ought to be a very close race....  :2cents:

What ever you do... keep it safe!   Or at least try....  ::)

If the 5.0 is a stock automatic, you will win, if it is a stick, could go either way. The challenger weighs about 5-600 more pounds than a fox body, even more if the mustang is a coupe. A stock 5.0 5 speed mustang ran around 14.7 in the 1/4 while the A/T was about 15.2ish.

I gotta admit this thread embarasses me...

My old Dodge Stratus board used to have discussions like this all the time - "Will my 3.0 Stratus with CAI beat a stock Accord?"  They got so monotonous...

But since this is the first I've seen on this board, I'll give it a go!

I think you're gonna get beat.  I think it'll be close, but I think he's gonna get ya.

I street-raced one once in my Stratus - 3.0, V6, 5speed.  (For what it's worth, I've run a 15.1 in it) and he walked me pretty good right off the line.  I couldn't run with him very far - had to pull off onto a side-street.  My Stratus whoops the crap outta my Barracuda, and I know my dad's 340 was quick, but isn't wasn't THAT much quicker...  I dunno.  I say it'll be close.  I DO know that if he beats you, you aren't ever going to live it down.

...and you'll be shopping for a 440 like I am.  :)

This isn't really related, but sometimes you just don't know what you are messing with. This happened to me one nice day a couple of months ago...

I'm slowly pulling up to a red light when I notice this new black Charger weaving in and out working his way to get up next to me. We are both sitting there first in line in our respective lanes. I'm not totally stupid, so I know what's going to happen. I tried to play it cool and not look over at him, but out of the corner of my eye, I spot the R/T badge on his front fender. Oh $hit, this is going to be interesting.   :naughty: Surprisingly with my 3:23's, I got the jump on him. I wasn't pedal to the medal, but most of the way there. I'm watching him out of my left side view mirror slowly coming up to me. His engine was screaming!! I hope he wasn't still in first gear.  Anyway, I had to head off to an exit ramp on the right, while he was soon to meet another red light, but that was a quarter mile+ of fun. I'm not looking forward to meeting any 6.1 Hemi's though.   :grinno:

:eek7:  Since when does 7.2 litres equal 340 ci?  Im surprised no one straightened out that a 340 is only 5.57 liters

My 318 beat a supercharged 93 5.0. 8# of boost, headers, shifter, 3.73s, drag radials, tuned, different heads, ported stock intake, bigger tb, MSD 6al, and a bumpstick.

I woulda thought that car would go low 13s, it was a driver race for me. I know my car...he drives like a old lady usually :D. That car very well could go faster, however when i saw the video of how s-l-o-w he was pulling on me after he red-lighted .1sec, my reaction time was .3sec (up to .4sec between my tires rolled and his), and i still beat him by .4sec.....thought it wasn't movin as fast as it should  :grinyes:

You need to make sure its 'stock', get a feel on the driver and go from there. I wouldn't underestimate the car, however its only as fast as the loose nut behind it.  :smokin:

At first I read the post (Not  knowing who posted it at first) then thought, "That's some good crack....  :screwy:"...

But then I saw it was Goody and thought, "Ohhh....now it makes sense!!!"  :D  :roflsmiley:

Nice job, Goody!

Geez...  That was just vicious and un-called for...

Oh wait, it's April and Mike - never mind.  :)

I thought 440's were 6.7 Liters...  If a 440 is 7.2, what's a 512?  It's friggin' gotta be 8-somethin'...

Here is an easy way to go from cubic inches to Liters:

(Cubic inches X 16.387064) / 1000 = Liters

For example:

(512 X 16.387064) / 1000 = 8.39

(512 X 16.387064) / 1000 = 8.39

 :wow:
