Six Pack Bowl Vent?
« on: January 15, 2008 - 06:04:34 PM »
On My new six pack set up the center carb has a line they call a bowl vent, where does this go on a '70 model? I've seen pictures of '71's with it going to the breather cap but on 70's they didn't or maybe the cars I saw were wrong. did the '70 just not use the hose and leave it open or did it go somewhere else?

the 70 was open to the atmosphere , & didn`t have the hose pipe on the bowl basically you can just leave it open

Sweet, doing nothing is my favorite way of fixing things.

At idle the bowl vent valve is supposed to be held up and the closes as the throttle is opened right? my carb is new and it's WAY out of adjustment if I'm reading the service manual correct. I can't believe Holley would ship something that far out of whack , makes me wonder if I'm on the right track.

I think you're right because the new ones I have do have the bowl vent tube ( center carb only ). is the adjustment on the vent important? I think mine is screwed up from the factory if it is.

not hugely important as long as it is open at idle

the arm should move as the throttle  is closed down to idle this will open the vent to allow vapor outside instead of boiling inside the venturis

Thanks very much, that's the way I took it from the manual also. I'm surprised Holley would ship a new carb out WAY out of adjustment like that, it was 3/4" from contacting the throttle arm that's why I thought I might be messed up in my thinking .    thanks again

the carbs get out of adjustment just shipping them , it may have left the factory set perfectly
I always reset all adjustments on new carbs
