4 piston Kelsey Hayes Caliper part
« on: January 16, 2008 - 05:47:57 PM »
SO I am working on a 70 Duster with these brakes & 1 of the pad retainer clips is missing , anyone know of a source ?
SSBC uses the same clip on the Force 10 4 piston caliper but they refuse to sell me the part  :hyper:

Call back and ask them for a rebuild kit for one of their calipers, or tell them you lost the hold down and need a replacement? Sometimes it is a simple as talking to a different person. Rock auto lists the calipers from A-1 cardone as rebuilds, but don't show the hardware. maybe a call to Cardone to see what they have available?

Isn't that the same caliper that was used on late 60's Darts and Mustangs from the factory?  I'm surprised you can't find a rebuild kit or parts locally.  Maybe check with a Mustang resto place?

I asked John at Goldline brakes.  His answer:  the parts are long-gone except for maybe in salvage yards; he knows nothing about getting parts from SSBC; he suggests fabbing something to keep the pad down in the caliper, as long as it's for function and not for show.

This place says they have a 72 Plymouth Valiant with dual piston calipers; is that the same thing as what you're working on?

Marshall Auto Wreckers, Alberta, 403-328-3316, info@marshallauto.com, they want $50C for each caliper. A bit steep for a clip, but if it's something you have to have ... ? If that's the right application, they might sell you the clip cheaper.

Well  I have changed my mind about SSBC , I have called them twice & they have been totally rude twice ,they hung up on me the second time , they simply will not sell me a clip for less than the price of a pair of Cailpers
I will no longer be dealing with them for any parts maybe ebvery memeber here should call & try to buy the clips from them once / day just to annoy them some more LOL  :blah:

134.99 at Advance with a $30 core charge.  part #184406 for the right side, part #184407 for the left side.  I searched for the hardware kits, but they only have them listed for drum brakes online.  If I wasn't back in school right now, I would go to my local advance and find a part # on the clips for you.  I'm sure that you can get just the clips. If you have an Advance store near you, try to talk to the store manager.  I've been working there for 6 years now, and most of the time, they hire complete idiots who know little to nothing about cars.  Computer skills are more important. :villagers:

Thanks for the offer 74 340 But the clip bolts into the bolt hoe on the top of the caliper & folds under itself to hold the pads in place , the clips are not on the rear of the pads . So does Advance have stock ?? , we do not have Advance up here , I have checked local suppliers & came up with a right side caliper only , the rebuilt calipers do not have the clips though so I still need to track them down as well , possibly a Mustng supplier will be more co-operative  :dunno:

Cool, teamwork to the resue!
It's a shame that CP was on another thread praising SSBC and now they lost his business and respect over what ended up being a $12 part.
I'm guessing SSBC buys their brakes boxed up ready to go and doesn't deal in rebuild or replacement parts. Still no excuse to hang up on someone. They should totally be into the custom oriented customers and be willing to go the extra mile.

If they were interested in service they would have at least TRIED to find out for CP, to hang up is the height of rudeness as far as I am concerned. Then again the company might be paying someone minimum wage to take phone orders but that is still no excuse.
