What are they worth? Every penny if you ask me. What are they asking? If it's in Aussie, I'm guessing around $40K for a 74 'Cuda, yes? All depends on the condition mate. You can be a nice car for more or a turd for less. Just make sure you do your research (like you're doing) and find the car you've always wanted. 70-71 E-Bodies are the "desirable" ones, I like them all myself. 70-71s go for bigger dollars and had better factory options. But, if you're thinking of doing a custom job then options won't mean too much. Best of luck.

Cheers from New Zealand.

I don't think I know anyone more qualified to answer that question than the person that already did!

G'day hipo,

It is difficult to say whether $40k is right money for the car you are looking at for a few reasons.  If your intention is to restore it, or the car needs bodywork etc, $40k is a high starting price, given the cost of getting major work done.  If the car is a driver and you are going to keep it that way, then $40k might be Ok as long as the car was sound and you were happy with it.  74 Cuda's are not the most desireable of the E-bodies as they were impacted by crash legislation in the US and subsequently had bumpers that sat out further and pretty average looking plastic fill panels to cover the gaps, and 40 year old plastic is hard to work with.  Of course you could get different mounting brackets and mirror the 72 appearance which is neater and this aspect goes away.  Plus for the 74 is the 360 engine which is easily repaired or replaced in Australia.  Another thing that might impact you with a 74 is the introduction of ADRs in 72, of which you will have to comply to get the car registered - may not be a big thing but was one of the reasons I was happy to have a 70.

Parts will be more expensive than you ever thought and most Australian Chrysler stuff is different.  If you are thinking about restoring, just remember that the costs will be the same (pretty much) for an average car as for a mid-range to good car which is what I meant by $40k being a high starting price.  Alternatively, if somone else has spent the money before you and is taking a loss on his resale then you could be onto a winner but hard to tell without posting pics.  If the car is being sold by an importer, it may have been in his yard for a while (I have seen some cars advertised for months on end, maybe upto a year) so if he is having trouble selling the less desireable 74, then you might have room to bargain.   Let me know if this is the case and I can tell you if I remember it (and won't steal it off you - one is enough :eek4:)

:bigshades: basic economics, supply and demand! everyone wants one, none available, big bucks! i am building a 74,big block street machine. this is #8 cuda for me,i prefer to build the cars the way i want, and not get caught up in the number matching end of the hobby.solid body is most important, floors, frame etc.end result is a car with patched floors and frames worth a lot less when time to sell, and hard to get real excited over a car that is patched and pieced together. many parts available for 72-74 cuda. think of what you want to end up with and jump into the project of your dreams.driver? trailer queen? street pounder? lay out a plan that fits your end result then see if you can justify the years of work and the thousands of dollars to get there.the end result will be worth it if you have mopar blood flowing through you! :ylsuper:
74 cuda,az car. built 383,727 manual shift,reverse pattern.8th cuda project,cant get enough!

Wow, thats not terrible. I suppose everything will be much more expensive due to the fact that the cars were imported from here. Im just simply amazed at where these cars pop up. I assume there is a "scene" almost anywhere.

Red 72-74 (cant confirm from pic as bumpers may have been replaced) Cuda with a 440 fitted stolen in Sydney last week so just make sure car is legit.
