I think e-body prices topped out a couple years ago.

I don't know yet could be just a rough crowd.  They have gone down in the past then come back up.  Seems they do the same as the economy.  It is down right now so so are the cars...

I think prices are kind of mirroring the general economy and market conditions.  :icon16:

Cool, maybe they will keep going down and I can finally afford that B-body six-pack or Hemi car that I have always wanted. So, are the high-profile B-bodies following suit?

I agree, I was surprised that didn't sell for a lot more.

I talked to a buddy of mine last night and he is at Russo and Steele which is down the street from BJ at same time and they have just as many if not more high profile muscle cars there...he talked to several sellers there who said they would not take a car back to BJ because of low prices and the no reserve circus......he saw 6 E-body hemi cars at Russo....he said the cars there are selling for more money then BJ....

I wouldn't exactly call $80K+ being in the toilet.  Several years ago they were just ridiculously over paying, kind of like what they are now for the Shelbys and older Vettes (Who the he11 would pay $150K for a stinking Thunderbird?).  I agree that B-J is no longer a true gauge of values.  I think for a lot of the buyers it's all about image and the camera in their face.  Just look at the crud they are running across the block this year - Monster Garage vehicles, Robosaurus, Miami Vice Boat, etc.  I think they've gotten way to big for their own britches, and the No Reserve is BS.  I know a good number od restorers who will never take a car there, again.  Russo Steele will be the next big thing.

I would have to agree with the no reserve thing.  Scares some off and if the right people are not there when it goes across then they miss there bid time.  So I do not see how it could be a true gauge of prices.  Sometimes I think it all boils down to luck when taking your car to bj.  If the right guys are there when you sell then they will go high and if not then they sell low.

The prices are going down because of several reasons. First, the speculators and investors that drove the prices up, have moved their money into other areas because the potential for making a quick buck are gone. This is often what happens with a "Fad". The market has been flooded with muscle cars, and there just isn't the same demand. They will now move to cars that have been undervalued, or forgotten, like 40's and 50's cars. They'll start buying them up, cause a frenzy in the market, and sell when they feel they've topped out, just like with muscle cars. Collectors are moving to other areas that are even more rare, like vintage race cars, one offs, etc. People that borrowed money from their home equity are dumping the cars because their home values are falling like a rock. People that were considering cashing in their 401k's or home equity have pulled back and decided not to. Watch gold prices, and you'll see where a lot of the money is going.
