315's are on!
« on: January 19, 2008 - 05:39:53 PM »
Got them mounted and installed. After all the measuring, centering, checking, the rear end still ended up about 1/4" off center which is pretty close to where it was previous. Perches are welded now and I am not going to go thru the pain of resetting them. For the most part, a 1/8" or so spacer will clear up the issue I have on the passenger side. With the Dr Diff kit and the rear end properly centered, anyone should be able to pull off running 315's on the back of their car without rolling or cutting rear quarter lip.

The car does sit even lower with the 17" wheels and the ride seems about the same since I lowered it. The side profile shot makes the 35's look like rubber band tires however and that was something I did NOT want. On the bright side, the Sumis are cheap tires and people who have had them tell me they will wear out fast. If thats the case I think I will will consider a taller profile tire for the rear.

So before anyone claims  :useless:

Here are the fatties!

How much clearance to the spring at its closest point.

:clapping: Wheels look tuff, need a low side on shot when you get a chance to see the fit in the wheel well. :2thumbs:

will get some underside pics tomorrow. I didn't try any spirited driving and was taking turns as I would normally. The rear end is actually centered between the fenders as the clearance there is the same; its the spring clearance that is off by 1/4" side to side.

Am still thinking on the modified rear valance; there is a spring shop in Ft Worth that can relocate the rear spring hole. Am going to hold off until I get all four wheels on and get the front down where it needs to be.

The tires are 315/35-17

what thickness spacers/adapters are you running right now?  what rear end?  Springs inboard?

When I was playing with my 18x10s (5" bs) on my stock challenger rear, it looked like I could go to a 5.75" BS max before the back of the rim was rubbing the springs.

no spacers, stock 8.75 Ebod rear end with DrDiffs 1 1/4" relo kit. I realized about 1 1/2" additional spring clearance with the 1 1/4" kit. Challengers I have heard have more space in the back end. My problem now is that my spring clearance is unequal between the sides. I may have to run with a thin spacer on the pass side to get the spring spacing I need but right now it is just under 1/4" and isnt enough for regular driving.

Mike, Read on another post that you were having issues with front wheel backspaceing..
Are those American Torq-Thrust IIs?....If so their web shows avail in 17X8 w/4" BS which could use up to 255 tire.

Personally I cant run that low profile of a tire as they would blow up in smoke but it does look good for the g-machine look....  :2cents:
