    275 is a lot of tire. I'm thinking it may hit the strut bar, but I haven't ever checked that out myself. Considering a 235 to 275 is a 1.5" width increase and you only adding half of that per side, you might have room for the extra 3/4" per side, but your also looking at a non stock backspace to accomplish the goal.

    I may be rethinking the 17x9.5 and 275 tire combo. The problem seems to be more with the wheel than the profile of the tire. 17" wheels brush against the steering components. With 4.5" BS that leaves 5" of wheel on the outside the rotor. I wish there was a better way to check this, the wheelrite tool is great but am a little unsure if what appears to be a bind using the tool might work with the actual wheel. The clearances are very close on the wheel.

    Is anyone running a 17" wheel on the front with more than 4.5 BS?

    I'm hoping that the axle hung Hellwig will work, I bought it from EvilTwinATX. Right now am considering a rear disc conversion and am trying to figure out if the 275's/17x9.5's are going to work for me up front.

    What are the back spacing on the rear wheels maybe you could try one of them just for the back spacing and have a look while it is jacked up. :dunno:

    Those monsters are 17x11 and have a 7" backspacing. I know what you are saying though, at least I'd get an idea about the wheel construction itself. When the clearance is this close, the "barrel" thickness of the rim can determine how much inside clearance you have.

    I went thru NZ's wheel/tire combo thread today and only found a couple of guys reporting running 17" with deeper backspace than 4.5. Given most cars have unmodded front UCA and steering components, I have to assume the variation can only be in the wheel itself.   

    Even if the 17x9.5" Torq Thrust II would clear the balljoint, LCA, and TRE, I would have to run a spacer and I really want to stay away from that. I am thinking now I should go with the 17x8 wheel. Tirerack specs the Sumi 275 to fit on a 8.5 to 11 width rim. Think it would be a big deal to put them on 8" wide wheels?

    Are there any dropped spindles available for E-body Mopars.............
    This would place the rim above the ball joint but not sure on the clearance to the bottom, would need a picture of that. :chatting:

    thats a possibility, I've read that's a better way to drop the front as well. I need to ck into that.  :chatting:

    Yes, for $500 a pair from Fatman Fabrication. I've also heard Magnumforce is working on a set.

    The issue with a drop spindle is that now the upper ball joint will clear, but you run into potential interference with the outer tie rod ends. Remember these stick back and down from the lower ball joint and can quickly become an interference point.

    Thats gonna be a deal breaker for me then - in the 8" wheel, they offer 4", 4.75", and 5.5" BS. I'm thinking the 4.75" is what I'll go with and use a thin spacer if I need it. FYI, the 9.5" wheel is a 6.375" BS! I still want to use the 275 if there's no problem with running it on a 8" width wheel.

    yes, they are. Got a pair of Sumi brand 315's and and 275's for $417 delivered from the tirerack. Anyone know for sure about running the 275 width tire on a 8" wide rim? Its spec'd for an 8.5 to 11" rim. 9.5" would be perfect but in light of the deep BS on the 9.5, am thinking of the 8" wide rim. So does anyone know if this is feasible?

    275 in the low profile will probably look weird on the narrow rim. will probably be a little hard to mount as well. never know until you try it.

    I know a guy running 265/45 on a 16x9" rim on all 4 corners with slightly rolled fenders in front and 1/4 wheel spacers to clear the frame.  The spacer brings it to a 4.25" backspace in front.  Also, the car is lowered with 1.12" torsion bars.  Hope this helps.
