Those monsters are 17x11 and have a 7" backspacing. I know what you are saying though, at least I'd get an idea about the wheel construction itself. When the clearance is this close, the "barrel" thickness of the rim can determine how much inside clearance you have.
I went thru NZ's wheel/tire combo thread today and only found a couple of guys reporting running 17" with deeper backspace than 4.5. Given most cars have unmodded front UCA and steering components, I have to assume the variation can only be in the wheel itself.
Even if the 17x9.5" Torq Thrust II would clear the balljoint, LCA, and TRE, I would have to run a spacer and I really want to stay away from that. I am thinking now I should go with the 17x8 wheel. Tirerack specs the Sumi 275 to fit on a 8.5 to 11 width rim. Think it would be a big deal to put them on 8" wide wheels?
