CudaZappa, that sounds like a good road race spec wheel.

I would like to see more pics of the car with these 315's. How about a front/diganol shot?

The front of the car is up on jacks, have been trying to measure and figure out how I can possibly make the 275/40-17 on the 17x9.5 wheel work. Its not looking good for the home team actually. Biggest obstacle is the 17" wheel itself. the TT II 17x9.5 wheel only comes in a 6.375 BS. To get 4.5" BS, I would have to run a 1.875 spacer.   :eek2:

Putting that much wheel and tire on the outboard side of the rotor may introduce fender issues. Unless the actual wheel would run deeper than 4.5 BS, I may have to go with a 17x8, 4.75 BS and a narrower tire.

It is a sham they are not working out.

Maybe if you had 18" wheels this would not be a problem. :dunno:

18's would DEFINITELY clear front steering components better. Would probably fill the rear wells better too but 17" are large as I wanted to go. They are large too, and I could't see stuffing anything larger there.

I am strongly considering 17x8 wheels up front with the safer 4.75" BS. Still, I would like to at least try and fit the 9.5 wheel and see what best BS would be.

I personally don't see a problem running a 275 width tire on a 8" rim and have done it many times myself. With a 40 series sidewall it will seat without any trouble. What is the actual tread width, 9-10" maybe? That is well within the realm of an 8" wheel.

What is the section width of the front wheel house? I know 14" is what we have to play with in the rear (there or there abouts) just curious as to what the stock limits are of the front with discs/drums. :dunno:

Maybe that's what I'll do then; I need to get this build moving forward again. Will order the wheels today and if the 275's don't work then I'll sell them. Am unsure what the working width is up front but whatever it is, a 275 probably isnt going to play well with it.

Just ordered them; I did ask the guy about the 275 on an 8" wheel. He said they do it all the time, works fine. He said that 8" is absolutely the narrowest rim you want to put a 275 on.

Hi Mike,

You had better keep an eye on the tires at that width on a narrow rim, especially as a turning direction tire as the tire is not quite sitting square with the rim and if you are doing hard cornering, the forces you are applying in a turn will want to rip the tires off.  Most likely will not but too big of a tire on an under size rim will come off.  I think you just scrape in with the width of the rim at 8".

Post pics when fitted buddy. :2thumbs:

I drive that car pretty conservatively. However, if the tires don't look right or have an air of uncertainty about them I'll just sell the 275's and go with the next available size under. (255?)  I do want front and rear tread patterns to be the same

Not a problem Hemiken. The car below regularly ran tires that were 10" tread with a 12" section width on 8" rims because that is the maximum set up the rules would allow. I'm pretty certain he put more extreme corner forces into his combo than most of us could ever dream of.

a couple of comments on another thread here about running as large as a 295 on an 8" rim with no real issues
