depending on the aspect ratio, you will start to run into issues.  I had 255/45s on a 7" wide rim, and the tire guy was not too happy about it.  They fit... kinda... sort of like the 275/60s I had on a 6"  Another "looked cool at the moment" thing.

understood - am committed to the rims, the tires? not so much. Am gonna try the 275/40's on the 8" rims and see how they look. Heck, I can always sell them or put them on my BMW.

I have the same Sumitomo tires (315/35/17 & 275/40/17) and they are 13" and 11" wide overall respectively. Been working on other stuff and haven't gotten around to fitting them up yet... :violin:

315's are bad ass!  I have the same wheel/tire setup on my 99 SS.  17x9.5 up front and 17x11 out back.  Nitto NT 555R tires up front, and Nitto Drag radials out back.  The drag radials seem to run slightly narrower than other tire brands 315s, so they would give you some extra clearance if you need it.  I have been getting good wear out of my drag radials.  I think I can get about 25K miles out of them if I don't do too many burnouts. :naughty:

From the caliper looks like a Supra to me. I'm guessing the other end looks like his avatar.
Weird how Mopar guys are usually attracted to fast car of all makes besides chevy or ford.
I cut my teeth on a 68 camaro, but after that never looked back. Datsun 240z's, Buick grand nationals, and sprinklings of E and B bodies in between.

I've messed wwith a few imports myself. Here was my son's Prelude. I installed a body kit, Z3 fenders, shaved the door handles, then changed the color to Si-Blue.
We did the NOPI thing for a few years in Atlanta. Those Preludes are nice, it had the 200 HP Vtec from the factory.

heh, you might have seen my Integra, I took it to NOPI 3 years in a row and everytime got a first place in wild class,it's been featured in a few magazines, even on a cover of Revs ,every panel on that car was modified,I made one off custom body kit,it's funny that the whole process took my less than two months starting with a totalled car,and now it takes me months just to paint a car, lol, last time I took it to Atlanta ,I sold it there and moved on to real cars, here are few pics,

You can run more than 4.5 backspacing on a 17" rim. That tire gauge deal is messing you up. I thought we went through this on Moparts. Can you take you rear 17" rims and move them inward on the lugs to see if/when they hit the UBJ.

Clair is running 5.675 backspacing with the same spindles, upper ball joint part numbers and lower ball joint part numbers.

http://www.moparfins.com/CLAIRDAVIS/Cobra_Wheel.htm

Here's a pic of 17x9.5 Mustang spec rims with over 5.5 effective.

This car runs 17x9.5 with 275/40/17 on a slab sided A-68 Valiant.
