Why you should have insurance on your muscle/collector cars
« on: January 21, 2008 - 12:26:16 AM »
My wife was driving our 04 Hemi Durango Friday and noticed the dash lights were on for no apparent reason, later they started to flicker so she decided to stop by the dealer and have them check it. As soon as she told the guy what it was doing he went straight out and disconnected the battery, it was HOT. Evidently some solenoid in the dash can overheat. He told her that it could have caught fire during the trip home OR it might not catch on fire for hours, which would mean it would have been parked in the garage with my 70 6-pack Cuda, 71 383 Cuda convertible and 93 Mustang Cobra. For some reason I didn't renew the policy on the 71 last year  :dunno: :dupe:. The garage is a 24' x 48' metal building and I had not given much thought to it burning, never really thought about the daily driver catching on fire. Anyway, I think I will call tomorrow and get the convertible insured.

Good Idea!!!  Reminds me of the F150 cruise control recall campaign.  Spontaneous combustion at any moment, not good.  Glad nothing was damaged and no one was hurt.

It is a good idea and the first couple years I worked on restoring my Cuda I had no insurance till I came to realize how much I would loose if something happened to it.

:iagree:  Also another reason that I have a battery disconnect that is off when the cars (even my newer one) is parked in the garage.

Recalls on some things can go as far as factory reps coming to salvage yards! It's happened here twice! (both MOPAR).
Good thing you had that checked out , you could have lost it all, cars can go up in no time at all!

Yes it is a very good idea to keep it insured.  Just think of someone took it.  It happens some times.  Just glad I had mine insured one time almost lost it.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I agree is not only a good idea but also a must considering the prices of our cars..I have insurance in my 66 fastback and in the 73 Challenger even do I am paying a lot for the coverage, because I live in an apartment building without an enclose garage so I have to get the insurance from a regular carrier
