30 lb. of R-12
« on: January 23, 2008 - 12:04:45 PM »
I just picked up a full or nearly full 30lb. can of Dupont R-12.  It weighs 34lbs.  I tested the contents and it's 100% R-12.  Has a green valve, which I'm told has a check valve in it so it can't be refilled.

That said, I've been selling 1lb. cans for $20 all day long,  what should I ask for this ?

Thanks,

P.G.

I have seen them go between 500 and 900 a bottle.    How much did you pay for your bottle?   I sold a friend of mine 10 bottles 4 yrs ago for 100 bucks each for his restoration shop. I had 50 bottles at that time.  And he was a friend.  I knew they were worth more, but he was my friend.  High dollar stuff you got there.

Thanks,

I will probably haul it around to some local swap meets rather than try to ship it anywhere.

Whatever you do, be careful with it - that $hit can knock a buzzard off a gut-wagon...

R-12 can kill ya before you know you're dead.

Hey wait I'll buy it - my neighbor's really gettin' on my nerves...   :stirpot:

Maybe you can put it on your local Craigs List.  It would be a bear to ship with all the regulations.

Challenger6pak,

I would but that's where I got it, the guy who sold it might not like the markup.

One thing is that R-12 has a tax on it and can be assessed to the new owner of the stuff.  Watch out and check into it further before leaping.

I thought there was also a restriction that the recipient had to have an EPA certification to legally take possession.

Could be wrong...

Can I ask why you bought it if you were just gonna turn around and sell it?  :)  I'd think dealing in refrigerants can't be a very profitable investment.  Maybe I'm wrong

Reason I bought it was because I knew it was Waaaaay under priced.  I don't mind making a few hundred bucks for 15 min. work.

May sound mercenary, but I have to finance my bad habits somehow.  There are times I get a good deal and share the wealth too.

Guess that makes sense.  :)  Just don't go gettin' fined for having it - that wouldn't help too much!

Did you know that someone could get a 50k reward for reporting such a thing?
