Aftermarket windows no good
« on: February 12, 2004 - 01:13:20 PM »
Installed my new glass for my 71 Cuda convertible and the fit is far from perfect. I'm removing it and having the old glass polished. The arc of the aftermarket windows is slightly greater than the originals. Also, the corners are rounded and not as pointed as the original. All this means that the new glass will not seal properly either with the top, the pillar post, or the quarter glass. Don't buy!!

Wow, that's too bad Popeye!  Where did you get it from?  We have to get our front windshield and like to steer clear if possible.

Me to I also need a front, and both doors - just chipped on the top edges and my front has  scratches because the last owner (arse-crack) was too lazy to change the 50 million year old windshield wipers!!  >:( You could just about go swimming in my screen, the wipers made some decent groves so when it rains they look like swimming pool lanes lol!  ;D

I think popeye is talking about the new glass that came
out for convertables

not for slackers like me with just a hardtop Barracuda

360...so you think it's not the company making the glass that we should steer away from?  I was thinking if the company is that far off on the conv, they may be off on their other product lines too.

Not sure but the hardtop glass is still relatively easy to
find used

Verts have a real problem and the original glass is ultra
expensive

When I went to a freind of mine who owns an auto glass store to price the glass for the convert., I was told that the drivers door alone was $875.00 and the passengers side was $795.00. Not sure why one was more than the other . . . and that didn't include the rears.   :o   :P

Popeye,

Have you confronted the company that sold you the glass.  I e-mailed them but haven't gotten any response??  This is a sad day indeed!!  I was really looking forward to having nice shiny new glass!   :'(  :'(
