crate 6.1 available
« on: January 24, 2008 - 10:52:04 PM »
Looks like crate 6.1 hemi's are available from Mopar.  info from a posting on Moparts. P5155067
Looks like it comes as a typical crate motor, but with the programmable computer (AEM) already setup to run, a cable operated throttle body, wiring harness, etc. List for $9999, your favorite dealer can probably do better. Doesn't sound too bad considering just the service replacement crate motors were going for $5000 and are supposedly not going to be available much longer. I think I'll stick with the 5.7 for the convertible as it will make all the HP I will need for that car and I can source the added parts needed cheaper.

These crates will be better than most mopar crates have been as these will likely assembled for the assy line & just pulled out of the normal build stock

Why do people think the 5.7 Hemi's are so great? They don't seem so in the new Chargers, 300's around my area.

Have seen just a few 6.1...is a noticeable difference--

If I HAD to get a new Hemi-I would go with the 6.1

You can't go by what they say--you need to think what will happen. Now that the 6.1 has been out and theres TOO many, of course Mopar will start selling them.

The 5.7's will start show up-in big numbers-at the wreaking yards in the next few years-prices will start coming down but they be worn out. The new motors can not be bored out like the old. Believe over size pistons are now .005 over-not  .030. The heads might be junk too.
