new to mopar muscle
« on: January 24, 2008 - 11:27:19 PM »
ive been lookin through the site for a while now, and have decided that im going to buy a 70 barracudea/cuda and restore it to be a hemi cuda tribute.  I'm lookin to spend 5-10,000 on something and am well aware of all the work that will need to be done, but this being my first restoration i'm wondering if any veterans here can recommend any books or websites that will familarize me with the e-body, so i'll be able to work on the car myself when i do actually find one.  I have, at best, general knowledge about these cars but am looking to go a little more in-depth to prepare myself for what lies ahead.  I've scoured the internet and bookstores for "how to restore your e-body(or cuda)" books but have fallen short.  Whats the best thing i can do to learn about these e-bodies so that by the time i get one i'll know exactly what i'm doing?

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin, Welcome to CC.C ... I know that there are a couple of e-body books available that would be helpful but you have probably found the best resource....right here.. hang out, research & ask questions....

Welcome Kevin     Tributes get picked apart on a regular basis. You need a book that lists part numbers and date codes to help you along

Reading many of the posts here is a great start.  Some of these guys have played with these cars since they smelled new.  Most are more than willing to answer questions, and there are quite a few that will do more than that,  I have yet to find a definitive book about these cars, and will be watching for an answer here.  Since you have already decided on a 70,  start collecting photos of the real 70 Hemi Cudas that go up for sale.  Most of the big dollar cars have been restored to the level where they can make pretty good references.  Get a copy of the factory service manual (the DVDs are pretty good).  Ask questions here about anything that seems unclear.  Do some searches here about what to look for and look out for when buying a Cuda.  Read some of the restoration threads.  If (when) there are key photos missing from the thread- email a request for a copy to the author.  Many of us love talking about these cars.

There is some invaluable info for the taking already here - more than you will ever learn from a book or two.

 :clapping: Welcome to C-C.Com.

You may want to look at the car first with your price range, because that Hemi is going to cost $13,000 + just on its own.

Good luck finding a decent starter car. :2thumbs:

WELCOME !!   This place would be a must. Find a member close by with an E-body that you can go look at more closely. They are very simple. For the most part. Good luck with your search.
