Car show (in N scale)
« on: January 25, 2008 - 04:15:29 PM »
My youngest son got me got me to start an N scale train layout. Not real big (4'x8') as I don't have alot of room. As part of this I put out a few cars. Ok, not really a car show. But I do got some Mopars, even a Challenger.

I think it needs a few more cars to make a show...   :dunno:

Thanks Jim, but these are very tiny, much smaller than the matchbox cars. They are Micro Machines, about 1 inch long. Even the Micro Machines are a little bigger than they should be. This is 1/160th scale. I wish it was the same size as we already have tons of Matchbox/Hotwheels/Johnny Lightning cars and trucks. I think the ones you have will fit an HO scale setup, if anyone has one of them.

Looks great Dave!   :bananasmi

Hey Bigs, we have a Lionel set, too.  All these trains, I wish I had the time to put them up and stretch their legs, sitting probably isnt good for them.   :walkaway:

I would imagine that it isn't doing too much harm letting them sit.  The only thing I can think of is the lube that is in them might get "junky" and thick, other than that I think it's ok.  Those old Lionels are all metal and built pretty tough from what I remember.  I still have the one from when I was little and it still runs fine, just have to lube it up a little when I run it occasionally.   :2cents:

Thanks again this was for my son, but has turned into quite a hobbie for me this winter as well.

Yea, I think they would be ok as well. For Christmas I got my son one new train set and one very old (but still in the box) train set. When we took the old one out to test it, it just buzzed and wouldn't run. After cleaning and oiling it up it runs great. So just a good cleaning and oiling is all they should need.

Now that it is set up, I just need to cover it up and get back to polishing trim.  :faint:

Dave,

Very cool setup. :2thumbs: I wondered if there were any model train folks here.
I was hooked on HO scale a long time ago, still am, but don't have the room to put my platform up anymore.
