    Will engine/part prices start to come down?

    Since the prices of cars is starting to tank, especially clone cars, do you think the prices of motors and other parts will come down as well?

    Just wondering what the general feeling is.

    It has been my experience from way back that hotrod parts have always been just beyond reach of any normal paycheck. Direct connection used to do this all the time.  But in all reality now, prices may drop a few percents of original costs since they are setting on a shelf, no money comes in. And you will see better deals as time goes on at swap meets.

    Nah, I don't see part pricing changing much at all. There has always been a sizable demand for parts since not ever ycar out there was born with a Hemi pedigree and the vast majority if us all have to create what we want. That demand is no different now that the pedigreed cars are dropping in value.

    Think of it this way, almost everyone needs toilet paper. Some people spend thousands of dollars on a low gpm flush toilets or incinerator toilets or what ever gimick is hte latest green fad thing to get. The rest of us are content to get by with our plain old porcelain flusher with a brick in the tank. But we all still need paper.

    HP2 here is a quote from RDF.

     The swap meet was awesome!  They had SOO much stuff for sale.  Lots of guys looking to get out of the business so they were selling things super cheap.  1 guy tried to sell me a SB 727 that needed rebuilding for $20.00....he wanted $50 at first, but I told him that was too much....then he said I'll take $20.00 for it, then I realized it was for a SB, not BB.  But I did get a 741 3rd member with Suregrip (clutch style) and 3:23 gears for $175.00.  He wanted 200 but all I had was 175 so he took it.

    Yesterday my buddy just bought 2) 1973 340 Cuda's.  One has the original paint and is very clean.  The other one needs quaters and a trunk floor. Both run with their original motors. They came with a bunch of extra parts including a 1969 340.  Price- $6000.  There is a running and driving 73 Challenger 340 car that I know of that is for sale for $3500.  It has been for sale at that price for a month.

    With prices like that and the lack of demand, parts will flood the market.  This is good for real enthusiasts like ourselves.  We can afford to build some cars.  If it comes down more I may be able to actually drive a 6 pack Cuda around without doing so in fear because it is worth so much.   :woohoo:  That is what I got the car for.  To me a trailered car is as fun as owning a boat in the desert.  It is too difficult to enjoy. 

    Either way we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

    I hope this is the case, I have a thread started in the cars wanted section. I"m hoping to find a nice car within the next month or 2. This is the time of year to buy, if I don't find something, the prices will be back up in the spring, and i'll either have to settle for less car for what I have to spend, or go another summer without a car.  Its funny, lots of people say 35K will buy me a nice car with todays market, but where are they all....lol.  :dunno:   :crazy:

    I guess it depends what you are looking for. You probably won't find a big block car for that, unless it's a clone, but you should be finding all kinds of 318-340-360 cars for that price.

    I'm fine with a clone car, I just want a car thats done right, no shortcuts with paint/body, interior, etc. Someone who actually built the car to own, not to flip.  :bigsmile:

    What are you looking for?  Does it have to be an Ebody?  I know of a nice B that is what you are explaning that can be had around $15,000 and it is a big block clone.

    I don't think catalog parts will come down at all. At best they would remain the same or only go up in price at a slower rate. New production parts have no reason to come down, swap meet prices will probably go down though, unless it is a cross ram intake or something.
