ARP bolts

I`m upgrading my 383 engine
I wonder if it would be necessary to go with ARP bolts in the shortblock?

calculated CR 9.98
mopar purple 284/484
915 heads with bigger valves
Mopar Muscle did a similair build and they had 451 hp on the dyno.
However, they used a comp cam ,509 lift

If you are going to spend the money on bolts, you may aswell buy studs instead for a little bit extra.  But in reality with the compression and cam selection, you really do not need to upgrade the bolts buddy. :2thumbs:

I would at least put ARP rod bolts. Other than that, you should be ok.

ARP rod bolts are a must.  I would be careful with using head studs, as Chryco has said the heads cannot be removed while the engine is in the car if head studs are used.  I am not sure if that is true of a 383 but would check into it before using them on a street engine.

if you dont spend the money for the ARP's at least buy new OEM style bolts gotta remember there 40 years old now

Yes, thats whats crossed my mind too.

I believe that it`s true at least on the drivers side.

the new rods bolts are a Must ,main stud can be used with ease  head studs are not needed

The head bolts are torque-to-yield, aren't they?  Once used and tightened to spec, they cannot be used again.

Yeah, we`re quite a few from Scandinavia on here. Gurra Gas used to visit C-C.com too but I haven`t seen him around for a while.
How are things going with your Cuda?

Old engines do not use a torque to yeild head bolt & they can be reused with no issue
 personally I hate the TTY bolts just give me a stronger bolt & a consistant torque setting

Some head studs now have a hex shape on top of the stud, this way you can remove the stud in the engine bay.

I was told on new head bolts, thats is only $55 or so, if you can swing it, do it.
