One simple fix my friend, go to your profile and activate the "quick reply" feature. That way at the bottom of every thread will be a small "quick reply" box minus all smiles, it's the fast way to post. I myself use the smiles as much as possible as to not confuse anyone to my tone. Internet posting is hard enough to gage someones manner and tone WITH smiles let alone without them.  :2cents:

I would probably go in to your profile and click the buttons that will shut off the avatars and signatures.  That would help with the loading of the pages.  I thought there was something to turn off the smiley's too but couldn't find it.  :dunno:

As I said. Go to your profile, in the [MODIFIED PROFILE] section select: "Look and Layout Preferences". Down the bottom you will see 3 fold down options, the 2nd one down reads: "Use quick reply on topic display" if you don't want to see all the smiles each time you post you want to select "show, on by default".

Now go to the main forum index, go to any thread you want to reply to and you'll notice at the bottom of all the threads is a small box "quick reply". You can post what you would in the normal set up except this method eliminates smiles and misc coding. This doesn't turn them off, only Admin can delete the smiles. At least now you don't have to wait for 100 odd smiles to load every time you post. ;)

Barry,
you are truly a wicked person.  I will be saving some of those for appropriate use   ; )   <--- note special graphic smiley evasion technique

The issue is not smileys in posts, folks.  Just in the reply/create screen where it looks like a rabid hamsterdance is going on the whole time you're trying to enter a post.

Carl,
thanks for the suggestion.  I already get the quick-reply option showing up (I think it was on by default when I signed up); I'll try using the quick reply option.  I learned my emoticons in a text environment, and prefer their efficiency and brevity, though I understand your point about using them to clarify the tone of a post.

4Cruizn,
suggestion for board update; the ability to disable the smiley display on topic create/reply, please!
