The E in the VON also pegs it as an export car. Export cars did not necisarlily leave the US, if the car was ordered from overseas by a US serviceman through the Chrysler Military Sales Program it would have been tagged as an export car - international order car.

US servicemen could order cars from overseas and specify a dealership of their choice where they would like to pick the car up upon there return stateside.

I have seen quite a few "export" cars with the N95 emmissions required for sale in California.

Also known as the VSON

VON is more commonly used though.

If they begin with a letter, yes.

Occasionally if they begin with certain numbers at the front, yes.

Otherwise they are random from in-plant orders (sales bank cars) or from numbered order pads furnished to the dealerships.

NOM is Not Original Motor.

Motors technically are electric though, so unless they are talking about the wiper or fan motor it should be NOE for Not Original Engine.

Y16 - Sales bank

Sales bank car orders originated "in house", IE, inside Chrysler. They would build cars and just ship them out to dealerships, they had too.
