One Dirrrrrty E-body!

Okay, before anyone goes gettin' all mad at me - A) this wasn't my plan, and B) I fixed it right away!

I went out past Coudersport this weekend to visit my good buddy who was actually my best man at my wedding.  I haven't been to his place in years, and he's been trying to get me up when there was snow so that we could go snowmobiling.

Well there really wasn't much snow, and at the last minute he sold off his "sleds" anyways for some 4-wheelers.  So I decided, hey, weather's going to be good - no snow on the forecast. I'm taking the 'Cuda!  I made the 4 hour trip up with no issues besides an unbearable whistling noise at highway speeds from the windshield trim along the top.

Well Saturday it practically snowed all day.  There wasn't much accumulation, but it put plenty of moisture on the roads.  We went skiing at Denton Hill in Coudersport (pretty much all artificial snow) and had a great time.

Sunday morning I left for home and while the sky was clear and sun was out, the roads were pretty bad...

After a four hour drive passing trucks and such, my car was a mess!  As soon as I got home I gave it a good bath and put 'er back in her parking spot.

She did good though - over 460 miles, and for one stretch - all 2-lane back roads, I averaged 17.3 miles per gallon!!  On the highway she actually did worse - down around 14.6.

Car looks great, i think you are lucky no one asked you on the way if you had just found that thar 'Cuda barn fresh, especially the way it looked before you gave it the tub buddy.

Man she looked like I had been circle track racing when I got done...  I got out at my home and was like "GOOD LORD!!!"  I knew if I left it looking like that A) it wouldn't be good for the paint and B) someone would probably waiting to beat me up next time I went outside, leavin' a classic muscle car lookin' like that...  Hell I'm surprised people weren't followin' me home just to lynch me!!

A little dirty every once in a while is good with me.      

Sounds like a good trip.  Furthest I've even been in mine is 45 minutes one way.

Sounds like a fun trip but way too much salt on the roads here in Michigan . . . I'm not going anywhere.

People said I was crazy when I told them I was taking my 'Cuda that far.  Hey, if she's not up to a trip like that, then I've got work to do, 'cause I didn't buy her to have it sit around!  And 4 hours to Coudersport is nothing compared to the 8+ hours I'd have to the Mopar Nats in OH - when I eventually get to make that show.

Up in the hills they don't use salt - too expensive.  Plus since most of the roads are dirt, it can actually errode the surface of the road.  They use a light misting of cinder to provide traction, but not necessarily melt the snow, as a packed surface of snow/ice on the road is actually preferred.  Then the cinder sits on top and gives traction.

I know - weird huh?!

Not all that weird.  They do that all over the mountains in California.  I've driven in plenty of snow, but never salted roads.  Cinder provides plenty good traction.

A good job drivin' the Cuda.  I never understood what the point was of having a car you couldn't drive.
