Show me your heater valves...
« on: January 28, 2008 - 02:19:17 PM »
Hey guys,

I got a heater valve from Auto Zone last week (I kinda needed one last-minute.)  When I pulled up pictures of Cuda Guy's car (which I judiciously snapped photos of the engine bay to give me an idea of how mine was supposed to look,) I saw that they were different heater valves.  I unfortunately don't have a picture of mine, but it's the 4 metal tubes - 2 in, 2 out - attached to a V-shaped bracket.  The bracket ends with a small lip folded away from the valve at a 90-degree angle and has two small mounting holes - one at each end.  This lip is flat - it has no contour to it.

Cuda Guy's heater valve was contoured at the mounting bracket and was mounted towards the rear of the inner fender well.  The valve was round in shape and looked to be plastic.  My bracket is all-metal.

I want to keep the metal bracket as I know all too well how reliable plastic CHRYSLER heater valves are...  I probably replace 3 or 4 plastic heater components on Chryslers a week.

So I was curious if people could share pictures of their engine bays that would include heater valves.

I'm interested in seeing how a 318 is setup, and how a 440 is setup - I want to see if I can modify my valve to fit better (it's kinda, erm, "rigged" in there right now) and in a way that I wouldn't have to change it/modify it further for the eventual 440.

Thanks!

The all metal bracket is the replacement version and IMO isn't worth modifing. Went through those hoops when I was doing Dons car. Broke down and gave Don my NOS valve. I won't say what I had to pay to replace it at Carlisle last year. :faint:

But the all-metal doesn't fit.  It's a flat bracket - the fender wall is curved.  SO I have the valve holding on by one screw...  The other end is just sticking up into the air.

Not good - not what I like.  There's nowhere flat to mount it that'll still let the hood close and not require 6 feet of hose....

Do you have the original bracket that screws to the valve? I ran into what your doing on Dons car. I may have an extra bracket you could modify.

I'll have to get a picture and get it to you.  If you have a spare bracket - just the part that mounts to the fender wall, lemme know a price and I'll get it from ya.
