Anyone else had issues with repop Challenger gas caps cover?
« on: January 28, 2008 - 07:46:40 PM »
Evidently there is only one manufacturer of the repop flip top Challenger gas cap cover. I have received two units (Year One) and on both units the chrome cap does not rest parallel to the black base (hope I'm describing that right). As a result, the part looks totally stupid when on the car. Year One, as usual, has been really great about handling the problem. If you place the repop unit on a table next to an original, the difference is huge. I'm not optimistic about obtaining a satisfactory unit so am thinking about getting mine rechromed, except it is impossible to take it apart. Anyone else had problems with these units? Has anyone had the entire assembly rechromed, base and all?

I haven't really noticed anything with mine, there are a few recent threads on the repops and replacement quarters too.

I have the same problem with mine.  That's why it's sitting in a box on my shelf.  It sits about 2/8" away from the quarter.

Plus, my cover has deep burnish marks, almost like the Chinese prisoner who made it put beach sand on his buffing wheel before he boxed it. The gentleman at Year One opened about thirty of them, all the same.

Gotta love YO.  :2thumbs: Just send it back.

With after market products I have found about 1 in 3 are acceptable. Maybe it has something to do with the age of our cars but it is nice they try. Otherwise we wouldn't have anything to chose from. Sorry it's now your turn but thanks for sharing your experience with us.
