tailpipe tips for Cuda valance pan

The local muffler shop ran my new tailpipes straight behind the cutouts in the valance. I want the rectanular tips like the original, but it appears those have a curve and maybe have been downsized too. My pipe is 2.25" and I want something that will slip on to it and extend straight out the opening. It doesnt have to be original, stainless, or even chrome.
Ideas?????

Tips can be pricey!!    I hate to say it...but I did see some cheapies at Checker?,Carquest,? One of those places. That may work. Probably burn the chrome off in 5 min.  Do some :ebay:   searching.  The originals/repops have small extensions on them. Make sure you have good solid hangers back there,So the tips don't more around,rubbing the valence.    Not to hyjack,but...How far out are those tips supposed to stick out of the valence? I see them all different.   Good luck Burrrrrpenick. Any luck on wheels?  Robert. :wave:

We dont have Checkers here, but I have not seen any rectangles that were large enough at Advanced or Autozone. Something like that would suit me though. Do you think I could alter an original to work with my straight shot tailpipes?

I've looked at several sets of wheels.....maybe I am weird, but I kind of like the AR alloys that came with this car and use 215/65 and 245/60 tires. I am leaning toward using them for now but have not made a final decision. If the right wheel or wheel w/tires came up, I would surely consider them.

Your PM box is full. Those tires are 275/60/R15,265/50/R15. Rims should be 4.5 b.s F, 5.0 b.s R     The tips have a small piece of tubing that you weld to the end of your exhaust.  They are a must for the 'cuda.

Thats a good question, tips set closer in to a flush position on the valance panel would probably discolor the paint around the valance openings. Mine stick out an inch or so.

I was thinking of these if I do a custom valance - they are cheap and would sure look cool frenched in.

  I have a set of those tips here for my S/E.  They are the same width as the Challenger tip.  They are a Camaro tip. I bought a pair for $10 at a swap meet.  They are stainless so they will polish up.

I tried that type of tip before on a 90 Daytona with a 3.0 I used to have. I'll never ever use those again.  :2cents:

It sounded worse than those giant fart cans on the import cars. Nothing but "BBRRRRRRAPPPPPPPPP!!!!" through the entire rev range. It had a full 2.5" exhaust with the cat and muffler still on it. The long flat sides on the top and bottom just seemed to resonate like crazy. I was going to add a spacer inside and run a bolt through it from the top to the bottom to try to lock it down and quiet the noise some. However, I traded the car in so I never got around to fixing the problem.

A V-8 will have a totally different sound than the 3.0 with these tips.  These tips do not fit through the Cuda valance. They will only fit the Challenger valance without modifications.

yup. I would only use them on a custom valance where I could french them in. I had planned to do some cutting on them actually so they are angled to follow the profile of the valance. Would be great if you could put a rolled edge on the existing OEM tips.


I am surprised they have that much of an affect on exhaust sound but maybe so?

I realise that the v8 will sound a lot different than the V6. However, it sounded a lot better with the exhaust on the 3.0 before I put that tip on though. After the tip was on there I didn't even want to drive the car anymore it was so obnoxious.

I had picked that tip solely for the style of it, thinking that it went well with the lines on the Daytona. I never got to hear one before it was installed so I just figured I'd pass on my experience in dealing with them to those of you that might be considering them. Maybe it will save someone a headache like I got from it. :pullinghair:

Any modern tip is going to sound different than stock because they are more open.  Weldtecs stock looking Challenger tips on 3" exhaust made my buddies Cuda loud without any changes.  I don't know how these will sound.  I will try them soon since I have them and go from there.  V-8's and 6 cyl. motors have different harmonics.  What it true for one may or may not be true for the other.  Thanks for the heads up.
