I was thinking about it and talked to keisler. They told me that they could sell me the bell housing but I would have to modify the transmission tunnel to make it fit. I kind of dropped it after that, but I really like the idea of two overdrive gears.

hmmm, I wonder how much chopping of the tunnel you have to do? I am pretty sure I am going with a t56 so I would like to find out all involved with this swap.

going to be pretty sweet having 4.11 gears and still be able to cruise the highway and get decent mileage. I get around 31mpg in my 02 ws6 with the 6spd I love it.

Is your goal to have a stock appearing car or does that matter. If you have any fabrication experience at all, you can make a new tunnel from scratch and call it a day at that point. Also do you plan on running a stock pistol grip in the stock location or does that matter either.

cruising in 6th in my TA I am at 1400rpm's doing 65. that is with stock 3.42 gears.

looking for around 400hp out of the car.

yeah I could have deeper gears and still have usefull overdrive gears

I would like to keep the shifter position as close to stock as possible and I plan on customizing a pistol grip shifter for the project. not too important to keep the car stock appearing, I am doing a 2 tone vitamin C orange/black paint job with some nice 16-17" rims. and since I do custom upholstery the interior is going to be the way I want it.

That would be a nice tranny to have.  Where can someone get one and how much?

I had found them before - I think they were in the 5K range.  I can't find them now.

I did however find this extensive article - didn't have time to read it all myself though.

Add-On -

I read that Keisler has them - www.KeislerAuto.com - check them out.  I can't find a direct product listing - might have to email them.

I'll try to find more.

XV also do a T56 Viper spec box good for WOT shifts at any rpm, all can be shifted like this but this box is supposily built for it eg: you're not going to f#%k it up. Not sure if they've finished fabricating the parts but they do use and have used them on their builds before. Nice box but Scott and I agreed it's more for brag than anything else, unless you like doing 100mph @ 2,400rpm or road race at high speeds a 5-speed box is just as good. If you're keen first place I'd call would be XV. :2cents:

I'm pretty sure that's only for LX based cars, Chargers, 300Cs, etc...... :clueless:

if you know where to look I have seen T56's go for $1k and I know of a site that sells them built to handle 700hp for $2500. I have found the bellhousings for $430.

I still have not decided what engine I am going to use. any suggestions for the best bang for the buck??

Well you're going with a modern trans, are you looking for a modern engine?

People seem to like the 440>512 Stroker - that's what I'm going to build.  Supposedly good power for reasonable money...

Wanna give more specifics on your project?  What are you hoping to achieve?

I have one from Kiesler the TKO 600. You will have to cut the tunnel hump slightly. I bought the entire covnersion kit which was $5200 or so. The T56 it's self is not that expensive it the bellhousing that they have to machine that makes it so expensive. Good luck and keep us posted.
