To NZ440RT
I like the Idea about dropping another motor in but will that keep it original. I what to keep it Original but I trying to make it for show, but people tell me not to change anything like putting on header, or slick for the street, Money is no object because I want to do it right the first time I late to go back and do it over again that is why I ask for people that has one of them so I can get Idea I would like to drop in a 440 6 pack and had the cop catch me should I change the wheel to the new style or leave them alone
Hey BoB,
No it will not keep it original, BUT if that's what you want to do there's nothing wrong with that. If you want it to be an original show car keep the 318 - they are a good little block done right. People who tell you not to change anything are in some cases correct, however putting headers and slicks on will NOT decrease the value of your car, it will enhance the value. Mine for instance is an all #'s matching car, however I will be adding headers and an exhaust, these can be taken off if sold or to be judged, but most enthusiasts would think it's the way to go as it helps the engine breath and they can be taken off - it's not perminent
Here's what I would do in your shoes with your thoughts on how you want it:
I would stay with the 318 work on it a litte, new carb, manifold, headers, exhaust etc and get it to respectable numbers 300hp is fine and it's still the original block and ALL mods can be removed.
Changing the steering wheel is fine, but you should stay in the mopar tune, buy a Tuff wheel there awesome and look good.
Also I'm guessing your hood is flat? If so you can change that to give it a meaner look, must remember to keep ALL the original stuff - very important
Make the interior orginal looking but keep to the same year, for instance don't buy the wrong year seats etc.
The more you change the less original it will become, but if everything can be changed back that usually keeps the enthusiasts happy,
but hey it's not there car
As long as your happy and you enjoy it, that's what it's about build the car for you but remember you might not be the last one to own this car and that's why keeping the original items are important, to keep these Mopars on the road in original condition for ever.
The reason I said stay with the originbal engine is thats what you wanted, plus it will make you feel better because you know it's a numbers matching car that you've made your own.
Hope that helps
Cheers,
Carl
