Like many of you guys, I have a tough time trusting the rather vague stock gauges in my car. I also do not care for the aftermarket gauges hanging down under the dash. I figured out a way that I could double check the oil pressure and water temp when I am running it hard without having the hot rod look.
I put a pair of autogauge mini gauges where the ashtray was. I assume most of you guys don't allow smoking in your cars anyway. I picked up a spare ashtray, and since I wired it with a disconnect harness, it can be swapped out for the stock ashtray in the same amount of time it used to take to empty the ash tray.
They are angled towards the driver for easy visibility and when they are not in use, you just close the ash tray drawer and nothing is visible.
I am planning to add a dual color LED between the two gauge faces to glow red for undercharge and yellow for overcharge so the voltage is monitored as well.
