A Carb question.

OK,

  I can't let well enough alone.  :banghead:  I have an 800CFM Holley double-pumper that I have tuned just right. I also have an 850CFM Holley sitting here now. Will I notice much difference? Probably just in the decrease in gas mileage.  :lol: As I see it, this is as big as I can go, and still have a choke. I tried going without, and I HATED the 5 minute warm-ups. My real question is this... In my 800, I had to go from a 31 accelorator pump squirter, to a 35. Do you think I will have to do the same with the 850? I ask because it would be easier to change it now before I put it on there. I assume the correct answer is probably go with the 31 on the 850 and see what happens, but my intake manifold is out getting powder coated, so it will be a couple of weeks before I can throw this new carb on. I'm just sitting here thinking too much again.  :bricks1:

EDIT: It's a 440 with ported 906 heads, a big cam, and 10:1 compression ratio.

usually the initial response will be the same with either carb unless it has annular boosters so I would use the same cam & squirter you used before
 5 min warm ups are not a bad thing , at leat the pistons swell to size before you beat on it

What you need to do is open the idle feeds in the metering block up .002  . Not that hard to do but you need a pin vise and wire drills. Barry Grant has a nice kit, Jegs sells it. The idle air bleeds might need to go down as well. They may be like .073, I would try .68 Now thats not as easy

The HP..and most all Demons..have removable air bleeds but on your carb, the bleeds need to be expoy or tap for air bleeds. A carb shop can do it.

Many carbs have no choke. Mine does not but once its set up right, I wait 1 min. max before backing out of the garage and taking off, easy of course until the motor warms up. But then I keep the exhaust heat on the intake open, thats a big help too. Funny, I have no heat problems in the summer time either.

i've never had to use a 35 nozzle on any of my Holleys (all on 440's). 31's give me a crisp response out of the hole (with a pink cam). i think the bigger carb will only give you a better top end. for the street stick w/ what you have. :2cents:
