New lifters, old cam

Say, my old 318 had a lifter tick noise and was going to replace all the lifters prior to selling the engine.  Ive recently learnd that the new lifters will flatten the old cam and I should replace the cam now too...  

What's your thoughts, would it be ok to install new lifters on a used cam?

other way around , old lifters on a new cam will wipe the cam , new lifters on an old cam is no problem
