« on: February 10, 2008 - 07:28:05 PM »
Hi guys, maybe you can give me some ideas.

I have been fearing the death of my dimmer in my 70 chally for quit some time and well it has passed, i really dont have cash to throw around to buy a new one. And i dont dim my lights to begin with so it owul be pointless to replace.

I was wondering if you e body heads, have got any sugestive bypassing.

i've heard of people making a jumper wire across/bypassing the resistor in the rheostat, which would solve a dead switch. Theoretically.  I've yet to do this myself, i should probably.

it is easy to connect a Jumper across the 2 wires on the rear of the switch ,this will give full power to the lights

I'm not sure which wires to jump on the harness.  I just soldered a wire across the actual terminals on the switch itself.  It will be clear once you remove it.  The connections that go to the terminals that connect to the spiral wire are the ones you need to jump.  If you look closely you'll see a metal finger that contacts the spiral.  Depending on where it's turned, you get your variable resistance.

On the connector for the dimmer, the center wire it tan which is your hot line. You will jump from that to the pair of yellows w/ black tracers.
The opposite pair of yellows without the tracers run the dome light.
Hope that helps.

I just took mine apart and cleaned it with R/C engine cleaner.  It is safe for electric and plastic materials.  You basically spray until it runs clear.  I then also took a q-tip to cleaning the rheostat.  Its now way better.  Of course it won't help with a completely burned out switch.
