When I bought my first car, a 74 Road Runner, it had 6 or 8" shackles on it. It was disgusting!! Tore em off and had the springs rearched. Much better ride. A good suspension shop can rearch them and even add an inch or two to the ride height this way. Much cheaper than putting up with the shackles and/or air shocks. I have to admit, it was kind of fun with the air shocks bouncing around with 100 psi in em, prolly not safe, but I was 16, didn't really care, just wanted to put 5 people in my car with HUGE tires in the back and I cringed when the tires rubbed.
