Standard vs Option
« on: February 12, 2008 - 04:33:37 PM »
Most cars that I see have the Rally wheels on them.  I personally think that the Magnums look nicer.  Am I correct in assuming the Rally was the standard wheel and the magnum was the option?  Was the magnum an option for a certain year or could it be purchased from 70-74

14" magnums with trim rings, rallyes, and steel wheels were all options on ebodies. The 15" chrome magnums without trim rings were not an original option. As far as what years each were available, I don't know.

my thoughts on this are as follows: seems like most sb cars and low option cars all seem to come with thr mag. 500's or steel wheels...............and BB cars or special editions came with the ralley's :2cents:

Does anyone have a picture of the magnums, steel, and magnums with trim rings?

Steel wheels were standard.  Even hub caps were optional.  Might have been that the baby moon were standard then all others were optional.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

It depends on the car model and year.

For most, the standard wheels were steel and came with hub caps or wheel covers.

Here is the info for 1970 Challenger models as an example;

For my '74 Rallye, the Mag Road Wheels with Brushed Trim rings were an option that cost a total of $82.05.   See attached pics.....

6packCuda, I can't begin to tell you how nice that car (and all E-bodies) look with the 15" chrome Magnums and nice white letter tires.  Of course, they look familiar...

But, right, the steel wheels were standard and 14" Magums and 14" or 15" Rallyes were optional.  The 15" chrome Magnums are purely an aftermarket item.

6 packcuda, that blue Challenger looks AWESOME with those rims.   Do you know if those are 7 or 8" rims?   255 and 235 60 series tires?

The blue Challenger is not mine. It belongs to a member here though. I can't remember his name. I just used the picture for reference. It is a beautiful car though. The black Cuda with magnums in my signature is mine.

Your tire guess is correct.
