Air breather
« on: February 12, 2008 - 05:38:16 PM »
This might not be the right place to post this, but I wanted as much feed-back as possible. I need to figure out what air-breather's to go with my cross-ram. The max size has to be 10 inches in diameter each. The only time period correct one I found was a repo @ $2500.00! It looks good, but not that good! Any help on finding a GOOD looking set would be appreciated. I don't want to go with the air horns as I will be doing a lot of street driving. Thanks, Dave

I think very old slant six's had the same style. Also some austrailian chargers and valiants had them. They were flooding the U.S. with them about 4 yrs ago. Let me see if I got a pic of my 426 with the covers. It was all original.

I built this back for my 63 fury convertible a few years ago.

I will look for a vendors book I have that has repops listed. Mine are originals

Hi Dave,

I have the same intake.  You could hunt down a NOS pair of 10" Direct Connection air cleaners on e-bay.  I have seen them pop up every now and then, amazing how many are around.  And they look great for what you want.

Hey Alan,
The problem with that Max Wedge set up is the air cleaners are further apart than the new Hemi crossrams are.   I have a few sets of those Max Wedge Air Cleaner lids here, they where used on some model slant six Valiants down under.

If OE appearance is not an issue I recently saw a similar setup using 2-oval filters set at an angle...seems like a good way to maximize element area,
Summit has several 15X8.25 & 7X4.25 as well as many sizes of oval & round...

The triple carb aussie chargers all had individual air cleaners for each carb, And a company called hemiperformance is now reproducing these. Problem is, I think these would only fit to two-barrel carbs.

Hi Andrew, why did you post this buddy. :eek7:
:grinno: He is talking about Air Cleaners for his 426 Hemi crossram intake, and the Hemi intake with top plates is different to the Max Wedge and original Hemi crossrams. :2thumbs:  This is why he is having a delemma.
