Econo Shaker Bubble?
« on: February 14, 2008 - 08:26:22 PM »
I've been eyeing this bubble on eBay, I asked the guy how close the size is to a stock one it is, but he can only give me the measurements.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SC45-Brand-New-for-Us-Fiberglass-Shaker-Bubble_W0QQitemZ150215189117QQihZ005QQcategoryZ34204QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I know it's not resto-riffic, but how does the size compare to a stock bubble?  I thought if the size was close, I might run it on my Challenger while I knock out the rest of the body work and save for the nicer bubble, vents, and stuff.

Thanks guys!!

I don't know the exact measurements of a real one, but that looks pretty close to me.

Not sure if it's 100% correct as far as dimensions go but for the price it looks like a good deal.  I saw another company last year sell the scoops for like $169.  This is much more affordable.  :grinyes:

Where would you get the vents, etc. to complete the look?  :clueless:

Length is 28 inches. Width is 24 and 3/8ths.  This is an original bubble not a reproduction. The dimensions on the Ebay one are the same as original.  The scoop openings are also correct. Notice that my bubble has mounts on the back for various items.  The reproduction does not.

Wow!  I never realized how big those things are until I saw one next to your foot!  Looks like the size of a garbage can cover!

I would stay away from that one. There is no way to mount the grills that go in the vent holes... it would look bad without the grills. I bought mine from Ultimate Rides and it was reasonably priced.. try them.

I got my whole setup from different vendors and managed to get good deals on all of it.. just took me a while. I still have some parts left over if you are interested. I have a fiberglass baseplate for a 4bbl., the 4bbl air cleaner lid that goes inside it. I ended up having to fabricate my own because of clearance issues.

I will make you a fair deal on them... let me know if you are interested.

I knew about the lack of stock mounting stuff on the bubble, I am more interested in filling the giant Shaker hole in the hood while I get other more important stuff done.  I can collect the stock bubble and vent parts later.

I'm going to be fabbing my own carb plate as well, because I'm running an higher than stock Edelbrock intake and Holley double pumper carb.

Thanks for the info guys!!   :2thumbs:

FYI, here is a pic of what I fabbed up for the new baseplate. I use sheet metal and ran some beads in it to strengthen it.... then welded (or rivets) to a 3/4'' drop base mild steel carb plate. Tuned out pretty well... the picture only shows the beginning of it... look much better now.

It's a little over 4 sq/ ft.  Makes Pontiac's look whimpy.

maybe in the next week or so I will make it out and finish it up.. I plan on powdercoating it black when I am done.. should look awesome!

if you pay for shipping I will trace out a pattern for you on some posterboard and you can use it as a template...that way you dont have to do any guess work.  :picture:

one hint.. if you are using an and Edelbrock Carb w/electric choke or any inlet fitting that protrude at all you are going to have clearance issues.. I ended up using a rounded base plate like this one (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=PRO%2D66808&N=700+4294925239+4294839057+115&autoview=sku - this fits much better than the standard style you find. The correct ones (mild steel) are hard to find though.

I might take you up on that offer!

I already have a drop base air cleaner on my carb that fits like a glove, so that's one less piece of the puzzle.

How did you determine the height of the bubble in relation to the hood?
