72 Road Runner Clone
« on: February 17, 2008 - 09:57:06 AM »
I've been meaning to start this thread for a little while now but keep forgetting to do it.  I get too involved in reading other posts and before you know if I've got to log off  :banghead:

Well here's the low down on it thus far.  I bought this car as a roller from a fellow Cowtown Mopar club member.  It started life as a 318 Satellite Sebring +.  By the time I got it it had already gotten a 440 dropped in it and been off the road for a number of years after one of the previous owners "windowed" the 440. Since that engine was junk, the previous owner pulled it for some parts and also started to strip some other things for his real 72 RR.  Once he had gotten all of the parts he needed from the car he put it up for sale. The body was pretty good with very, very, little rust.  I decided that it would be a good candidate for rebuilt 440 I had sitting in the corner of the shop and thus began the resurrection

Moparal - how's this for the furture :)
I also have really grown to like the 71/72 RR body style. So much so that I've already got the next project in the wings.

I am going to post a bunch of pics to bring this thread up to date.

I decided to paint the car Curious Yellow and add an Air Grabber to it as well.

I plan on doing just that :)  I am going to a club meeting this afternoon and am going to bring some pics with me.  I am sure the previous owner will go  :22yikes:

You can see by the dates in the pics I've been slowed down by th eweather here.  My shop is not heated and I've only been able to work on it sporadically

Decided to go ahead and put on a set of 15" Rallyes.  Also, since I painted it a 71 color, I figured why not use the 71 style rallye wheel centers

Looking very good.  You make me wish that was my car and making that kind of progress on it.  O well will get started after I get back from overseas.  I can hardly wait to do that.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Upgraded the front brakes to disc and rebuilt the rear drums.  While I was at it, I removed and sand blasted the upper & Lower control arms, painted the, and installed new front shocks, new poly upper control arm bushings, new tie rod ends, etc.  Also re-coated the under coating to make it look nice and fresh under there.  A little trick I picked up from a buddy of mine - I used truck bedliner to undercaot.  It sprays nicely, is not to thick when coating over the old under coating and best of all, it will clean up 10x's easier when the car hits the road  :icon16:

You know what, thats not a bad choice, you really don't see any of those on the streets. Put a 440 6pk in there with a 4spd would be a neat car. That car looks great in curious yellow..

Wish I could afford to put a six pack and 4 speed in it but that's a little bit out of the budget.

Here's some interior progress pics as well.

BTW - this car will be FOR SALE upon completion.  I will not be looking to get an arm and a leg for it either.  Probably less than 15K

I wish!  The weather really has slowed me down - not quite used to this Winter stuff being from South Florida.  I guess I got spoiled being able to work in my old shop 365 days a year.  I've set myself a complete date goal of March 17th now that the weather looks to be getting better I may be able to knock the rest out even quicker.  I've still got to install the headliiner before I an put together the interior.  I've already recovered the seats.  Missing a bunch of the little stuff at this point. I just dropped the front bumper off at the chromer's and should have it back before next weekend.  Already have the rear bumper.

I have to drop the gas tank and get it cleaned out before it dump any gas in it.  One litttle problem - the gas cap is missing the key.  Anyone know how to get that P.O.S. off???

Not bad for one guy flying solo though, huh?   :naughty:
