Are big block and small block kick downs different? If not, I've got a small block setup you could use to test and compare if you need it, David.

I'm fairly certain they are different.

gkring, I took your advice and put a bolt in the slot.  With the elongated slot up front, it still did not move the lever until the 4BB was about to kick in.  I now have the slot adjusted to where the lever will start to move as soon as the throttle is beginning to open. I did this tonight so I didn't take her out on the road yet.  I will give a report as soon as I do.  Thanks, David

Your "pin" on the carb that the slot rides on is too far forward. It should be almost right over the carb primaries butterfly pivot shaft.

Thanks Terry.  I did drive the car tonight.   The bolt I put in did change the shift points a little but still shifts too quick.  I will investigate the linkage you pointed out.  I had the carb off a couple of times cleaning it and may have messed up the reassemble.  Thanks all who have answered,   David

One thing to watch out for is, if you do get it shifting properly, make sure your carb is still going full open throttle and is not being stopped early by the transmission kick down linkage/lever.
