Did you know?---cuda vs challenger
« on: February 18, 2008 - 06:13:09 PM »
Did you know a challenger fuel tank holds 18 gallons while a cuda fuel tank holds 19 gallons?

For a very long time I thought they were the same and only the filler different.   I found this info reading through my old shop manual while I was making sure how much oil a 340 held for an oil change.

I find this hard to believe. How would they have the same sending units?

I dont know that answer, but I can take a picture of the service manual and show you.  It says fuel capacity for barracuda and challenger 18 gallons then a #4 foot note taking you where it says barracuda 19 gallons

As long as they are in the same relative position in the tank...does not make any difference what the tank capacity is. The gage reads E to F...not in gallons. Besides, the diff is onlt slightly more than 7%...and those gages are not exactly percision instruments.

Its all about the aerodynamics; the fluid Challenger body lines along the rear quarter, combined with the sweeping curve at the top of the quarter window promote smoother movement through the air at speed.  The simpler body line and that angled break on the Barracuda window promote more turbulence, impacting performance and fuel economy.

Well, Chrysler had already poured their styling and aero-engineering all into the Challenger, and the only way to fix it would be to make the Barracuda look more like the Challenger, and that kind of defeats the purpose of having two car lines, so in order to make sure the Barracuda, comparably equipped re: drivetrain, could at _least_ travel as far as the Challenger on a full tank of gas, it got a bigger tank.

Or so I heard ; )
