Pictures of Big Block E-body Clutch Rods and Z-bars?
« on: February 20, 2008 - 03:09:41 PM »
Okay, my car runs, drives, and I can shift it, but the clutch pedal to z-bar rod rubs the side of the firewall hole.  Not a hell of a lot, but it's not right.

So, before I get out the big red wrench and bend crap to fit, what's the actual E-body stuff look like?   ???

Is the rod in backwards, upside down.  I took mine out the other night to clean it up.

I believe I have the rod in the only way it would fit without major contact, either the clutch rod is wrong, mine has a little bend in it, or maybe the z-bar is wrong and the arm is too far off to one side.

Seems like there was an earlier post about this also and I think the Z-Bar was backwards.  :clueless:

But the z bar really only mounts 1 way. Also you keep in place with the wire clip to the pivot ball gromets on the drivers side. You should see 2 little holes on the z bar where the pin clip installs

Ahh yes!!  That was when I was trying to weld in the bracket correctly!!

Currently, the Z-bar is turned around the correct way, as per Chryco's instruction.

You can also see part of my clutch rod, I have it turned around the other way right now so the little bend is inside the passenger compartment.

Does what you can see of my parts, do they look like big block Chrysler stuff?  I know that might be a guess, but I'm still wondering what is not correct.

I assume you have the clip inserted so it is in the outer groove on the nylon ball bushings this will center the Z bar correctly , I also assume you have the correct ball in the bell housing , the longer ball with the smaller flange goes into the bell , if you have to modify something I would either bend or re-weld the upper arm on the Z bar to line it up better

Check!

This may not be right, of the little parts I used whatever I had in my 4 speed parts bin, and I believe I used two long ball stud deals.  If the frame bracket uses a shorter ball stud thing that may explain why the rod sits towards the passenger side of the firewall hole on my application.  I'll try a shorter ball stud deal before I go bending stuff around!

Thats, what I had in mind!!

Hopefully a shorter ball stud will solve my problem.   Thanks a million CP!!
