Will a 71 Cuda grill fit a 73?
« on: February 21, 2008 - 10:01:27 AM »
I want to replace the grill in my 73 with something else. I was looking at the 70 grill from BEA Parts, but I've been told that the 70 grill won't work because the valance on the 70 is different.

So, will the 71 grill work in a 73? I know the wiring will be a little different, but that's ok.

If it will fit, does anyone make a high quality repro, because I don't want to deprive someone that really needs a 71 grill?

The problem with the 71 is that it has 4 headlights.  There will be some modifications for that to work.  :2thumbs: I think all the cuda grills are very cool no matter which one you have.   :grinyes:

I've seen some '72-'74 Cudas with '70 grills.  It probably can be done but not sure how much work it would be.   :dunno:

Like 4c mentioned, the 4 headlight system on a '71 will make the work much more involved since it's not just the grill but also the headlight buckets, splicing in headlight wiring, etc... then you may want to add the side gills on the fenders...  :faint:

Maybe you could use headlight buckets from a 3rd gen Charger or challenger.

Anything can be done with enough time and money, but this would be alot of effort in my opinion. The 73 grill looks good to me.   :2cents:

What's wrong with the 73 grille? Sell the car and buy a 70. Or a 71.  I think the later grilles look better.More menacing. Round taillights forever!!  :drunk:

The 71 grill is my favorite because of the quad lights. I also like the 70 with the parking lights at the top. Just a personal thing I guess. Always wanted a 71, but they are just out of my price range. This way, I could have the grill I like while still keeping the cool round tail lights.

I think it would look kinda cool.   I've noticed most people on here don't really like it when you stray from original.    :grinno:

That's not really how I feel. My thinking is it would be too much trouble to be worth it in the end. Lot's of fabricating and such... I'm not saying it would look bad, but as a Challenger guy, I wouldn't try to make a 73 into a 70.   :grinno:  :grinno:  :grinno: UGGA-BUGGA trying to iron out that Chally front end.    :banghead:  :banghead:
