Thanks, It look pretty bad when we got it. It was brush painted a god awful green. Once it was stripped off the origional pump colors were Phillips 66. It had the lables still on it. The price numbers per gallon are stuck at .17 but I did get the gallon abd dollar amont rack going.

Goody, do you use anything in place of them. I used to use moving blankets.

Nope, i'm conscious enough. Work on cars everyday, used to lightly turn wrenches on high dollar hemi/440-6/etc cars, kinda second nature to avoid hurting the paint. I may use a blanket or something over the radiator/front header panel to set stuff on but thats about it.

Stabbing an engine i would put blanket/cardboard/blanket over things on my car

Work on your car naked!

That way, you won't scratch your paint with zippers, buttons, studs, etc.

Sorry, no pic.  :roflsmiley:

The danger with that lies in keeping track of the end of the floor jack handle's position at all times. :22yikes:

TMI...... Ouch!!! Since we are on the subject of garages...I've been looking at storage units/shelving for my garage and it is just outrageous ($$) for simple shelving. I looked at free standing units and wall mounted. I bought several heavy duty free standing metal shelves at an auction (now that's the way to go & save money!!) I have an unfinished garage, so wall shelves would do great. Closet maid has a heavy duty garage version for their shelving. It looked cheap at first.  :bananasmi Three six foot long wire shelves (16" deep) with all the hardware (this is where it all adds up) would cost me $170.00 bucks!! So I decided to buy brackets and use my own lumber. All I could find was wimpy 12" angle brackets. Finally found heavy duty 15" brackets on-line for 10 bucks a pop. That would cost me about 50 bucks in brackets for a 10ft long shelf. Finally I found a web site called "Tidy Garage". Web site sales only. They have a really good shelving system for much less than anywhere else I have found. I ordered several three tier wall shelving systems from them. Anybody have any shelving/garage storage systems they have used & like?? :clueless:

I've built inexpensive shelves in several different ways.

One time, I bought some metal shelving brackets that were about six feet long, and look like stair risers. They are pretty cheap and available at places like Lowes and Home Depot. You just bolt them to the wall, then lay lumber across them.  I went to a lumber yard and bought some 1"x12" #3 planking (cheap because they have a lot of knots) to use as shelving.

The other thing I did, was went to an Amish sawmill, and bought some rough-cut 2"x10"s. You can usually get the rough cut ones for pretty cheap. Then, I just cut some blocks, nailed them to the inside of the posts in my garage, and nailed the rough-cuts to the tops of the blocks. These are extremely strong shelves, and cost practically nothing.

Don't get caught up in "Shelving systems", that cost a lot, when you can do it yourself for a lot less.

Just a little helpful hint working on your car for those who dont know.. use rollbar padding around your floor jack to keep from bumping the bottom of your precious car all the time.....  :2thumbs:

Use black electric tape not zipp ties......  :2cents:

Been using pipe insulation on my floor jack for years and never gave it much thought as to mention it to others.  Glad you posted a great tip for all to take advantage of.  It really does help.

I really wish I had a garage...  I was crying to my wife about it just this weekend.
