i have upgtraded 7" H4's in my cuda. I will be going to the junkyard this weekend and picking up a set of 5 3/4" (i believe thats challenger size) headlights from a 80s BMW with HID projectors in them. He'll be testing those out on his RoadRunner

Yes my '70 Challenger, after I put the relays in I also installed 'blue light' H4 globes to my semi sealed H4 lenses.   :22yikes:   :2thumbs:  The only way to go, turns night into day.

I had a set of Carello H4 hi/lo and H1 hi beams in my 1971 (they're in storage now).  No problems with low beams using the stock and replacement Hella H4bulbs (60/55W), but I could not run high beams without popping the headlight switch circuit breaker.  Relays took care of that problem.  However at idle highs drew too much power and the ammeter showed discharge with the original alternator.

Fantastic lights with excellent patterns.  There were no 'blue' or other specialty H4s available back then, only higher power units but that was not necessary given the quality of the lights' output.  Besides which the higher watt bulbs back then would have stuck out like a sore thumb and guaranteed a ticket.

Haven't gone yet, got totally rained out today for the junkyard.

I do remember the outside lights had HID projectors, thats just what caught my eye. I'm assuming its 2 high, 2 low given that setup.

And the BMW Hids, they require a ballast to run them right? just fiddlin with options, i think hids would be to bright  for me i might stick to the h4 for my personal use :ylsuper:

I have the H4s installed in my Challenger. The only thing you have to do is cut the back of the headlight bucket to accept the larger bulb base. This means enlarging the hole that the back of the bulb goes through.  Bought my set including the bulbs on Ebay.  Make sure that yo do the relay conversion too.  When I would use my high-beams (all 4 on), my headlight circuit breaker would start flashing on and off duee to the higher current demand.

Which is why you need relays, especially with upgraded bulbs. It will be safer as well.

Perhaps the headlight bucket mods depend on the manufacturer of the headlight; the Carellos did not require any modifications at all.
