Factory Air Grabber hood? On a 'Cuda???
« on: February 23, 2008 - 12:46:32 AM »
Today was one of those days I regret not having my camera.
Went for a drive with a friend to pick up parts for a non Mopar project.
Guy we went to see has a Hemi 'Cuda shell along with a donor car for floorpans etc., the Hemi is VERY rusty.
Anyway, the thing that interested me the most was the hood for this car, stamped steel hood with a bolt on center section with an Air Grabber door?
It appears factory as the main hood is not just a flat hood, it has a raised stiffening ridge surrounding the bolt on section.
The total area covered by the bolt on section is much larger than the area occupied by a Shaker assy..
Has anyone ever heard or seen such a hood?

I wasn't able to get a look at the bottom side, there was a bunch of crap sitting on top of it.  :eek7:
Next time I'm there I will try and get a look at the bottom side and see if I can spot any P/N's.

Sounds like someone grafted a RR airgrabber assembly to a Cuda flat hood. Only factory fresh air hood on an E body was a shaker.

I will guarantee it is not a factory air grabber e body.   There is no way it would be a secrete for 38 years.  Do you know what a 71 72 road runner air grabber looks like? Or even the 70 rr?   Ttry and get some pics and we might tell you where it came from.

Actually, you're forgetting the TA & AAR Hoods were both fresh air hoods too.  But you are right, sounds like some one got creative

Yeah, like a truck I saw at a car show last year. They cut out the center section of a 66 Chevelle SS hood, and grafted it onto the truck hood. Go figure. lol.

I did something similar a few years back with my '97 Ram.  I grafted a 70 Superbee hood onto it.  Then I painted it Viper Blue.  It looked fantastic :)

I've been plotting and planning on an air grabber hood for the Challenger.  I'm going to rework a R/T hood since the center is already raised.  As everyone else has pointed out:
