Dodge Challenger 1973 wheel question
« on: February 23, 2008 - 04:31:40 PM »
Hi everybody,
I am new on the Board. First sorry for my english i try to write english but i live in canada.

I own a dodge challenger 1973. I have a question about the original wheels on the 73 challenger. I would like to know if i buy in 73 a new challenger with no wheel cap or rally or magnum wheel and i buy it with standard steel wheel with hubcap.

1. Wich color the wheel is? the color of the car or glossy black??

2. What kind of dog dish hubcap i will have with this wheels?
   a) dog dish hub cap with the pentastar and the red circle or the hubcap like plymouth so without the plymouth division word ....

thanks to help me!
Nelson

The standard wheel was a body color steel wheel with a dog dish hubcap.  There were (I believe) two optional wheel covers and 14" Rallye and 14" Magnum wheels were also optional.

Ok. I have in my hand a book : challenger and barracuda restorer guide by Jim Schild. In this book for 72-74 He said glossy black steel wheel with the same hubcap of the 71.. with the red circle....

So according to you this information is false?

I ask this question to you all board member because i am not sure if all info in this book is right...

thanks

I could very well be wrong about the wheel color, I was working from memory, which ain't what it used to be.

:iagree:  I think it was starting in '72 the steel wheels were all black if I'm not mistaken.  I know my factory spare tire was black if that means anything.  :dunno:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

FYI, BEA Parts has reproduced the red circle dog dish caps.  W21 is the Rallye wheel option.

I'm not positive but I think it was a semi gloss.  It wasn't flat black.  Gloss would be ok but I think semigloss black would be better but someone else might want to add their opinion on this....  :dunno:
