Lots of places are pretty neat - Wall Drug in Wall, S.D. ( just so you can say you've been there! ). Beartooth Mountains in southern Montana/northern Wyoming ( some really neat campgrounds along this road and just some seriously awesome scenery! ). Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming ( watch out for Hwy 14A, it's a real steep road - I know, 'cause I fried the brakes in my pick-up going down that road, and I wasn't loaded real heavy either ). The mountain campground north of Dubois, Wyoming ( which is on the way to Grand Tetons National Park ). Medora, N. Dakota , home of the northern unit of the Badlands and the Pitchfork Fondue - rib-eye steaks skewered on pitchforks, then the whole thing is lowered  into   these huge kettles of boiling oil for several minutes. You've never had such a great steak - guaranteed  to fall apart in your mouth ). Cody, Wyoming - rodeo every night during the summer, home of Cassie's steakhouse - seriously superb lobster tails. This country has a lot of really neat places to visit. Let us know where you're going!

Lots of open ends here for sure! Throw out a cookie here!  :grinyes:

Sorry I typed the post as we were walking out of the house.   :screwy:
Anyway we have no kids, and that is one thing that is keeping us from places like Disney.  I am sure the lines will be 2-3 hours for everything.  That is about the same time kids get out of school for summer break, right?

This is for a "big" event and I would like to find something relaxing, yet someplace we can look back on and know we had a good time.  :grinyes:  Here is a short list of our previous trips...

Been to Vegas a couple of times for the AMA Supercross and had fun.
We went to NM, spent big money for a "most romantic bed-n-breakfast", which was a DISASTER. :22yikes: :bricks1:  We have gone to the Denver/Colorado Springs area and we like that.

But this trip I need to really step it up and do something right!  :cooldancing:

Try Colonial Williamsburg (Virginia), great history, laid back, relaxing and can be very elegant. The Williamsburg Inn regulary hosts foreign dignataries including many past US presidents. It's 10 minutes from Busch Gardens (The Old Country) and Water Country USA. You're also less than an hour from the ocean (Virginia Beach), take a head boat out for some great Tuna fishing!! Lots to see!! :jumping:

Go up to the Boston/Cape Cod area. It's a great place for a couple to get away.

Enjoy fresh seafood. Have a drink at "Cheers". Do some serious antiqueing. Go to one of the worlds largest flea markets. Enjoy the beaches. Go deep-sea fishing. Hit some casinos. See some of the oldest and most historical places in the country, including Plymouth Rock, where the Pilgrims first set foot and started it all. Go on a whale watch. It is truely amazing when one of those majestic creatures swim up to the boat to look you over. Definitely a humbling experience.

Lots of great places to stay, and eat. If you go before Memorial Day, it shouldn't be very crowded.

Go to San Diego, it is awesome. Plenty to do there. Then go down to the Baja. You can stay in some truely nice digs for cheap and eat like royalty for pennies on the dollar.
Baja California has places you can stay in for around $30 a night and meals are included and they aren't the dumps like you see in Tijuana. You need to go about an hour or so past the border. No need for a passport either.

There is a lot to do here and LA/Orange County are only two hours up the road. If you crave sun, late May is not a good time to go.  The weather in May and early June tends to be cool and overcast.  If you choose San Diego, make sure you bring a jacket and don't plan on spending a lot of time at the beach.  Beach weather is better in July - September.

Also, if you want to do the border thing, regulations have changed to get back into the US - you need photo ID (drivers license) and proof of citizenship (birth certificate).  A passport takes care of both of those.
