340 motor in 73

It is possible in 1973 to order a challenger without the rally package and with the 340 motor?

I would think so, they were 2 separate options.  In '72 you could.

Starting in '73 to '74 there were no more separate Rallye models with the "JS" designation in the VIN, all the Challengers in '73 and '74 were "JH" cars and the Rallye became an option package, I believe code A57.

Conversely, I believe you could order the Rallye option package with a 318 car.  Even in '72 you could have a 318 Rallye car.

Soooo....in '73 I think you could order a 340 Challenger and not have the Rallye option, but someone else might want to add to this.

The Rallye package was basically heavy duty suspension, performance hood, and scoops/stripes.  You could get it on it's own with a 318.  I don't have order sheets in front of me but, I am pretty sure that ordering 340 mandated that you order the Rallye package also.  I don't know of a 73 340 non-rallye car.

That one is still sitting a few miles away from me.  He said he ordered it new, 340 Barracuda.

I have just read the other thread.. so i can order in 72 a base challenger with a 340? for the 73 it is the same?

Here's a page from a '73 Challenger brochure.  It shows the 340 option without any other wording saying the Rallye option had to be purchased also.

Yes, you could order a base '72 Challenger with a 340 from what I know.

Yes!  If I am correct A57 was the rally option code.  The H code denoted the 340 engine in the 73.  Many were sold with the 340 without ythe rally package.  Ask Barry or some of the others for production numbers.   Here is a picture of mine.  I will take a picture of the fender tag and post that as well.

I can't find my 73 Challenger order sheets.  I did find the Cuda sheets.  The 72 Cuda came with the 340 standard.  The 73 Barracuda or Cuda could be ordered with the 340.  1974 was the same with the 360. The Challenger may be the same way.  Dodge and Plymouth did options independently at this time. The 340 was obviously an option.  What other options, if any, were required when the 340 was ordered on a Challenger will be in the dealer order sheets. Many times the other required options were not put on the sales brouchures. Srobinson4's tag will be of help.

Sorry it took so long guys.  I have been out of town.  This is not the best quakity because I took the shot at night and have not figured out all of the bessl and whistles.
