The Big Sheetmetal Product Review Board (AMD, Goodmark, etc.)
« on: February 28, 2008 - 02:24:25 AM »
I was thinking it would be nice to have a centralized location to find write ups on the many new AMD products. So...post your pics and your reviews for all to read. I will start first.

I bought the lower windshield kit for around $190. The kit comes with...

-The hard part was removing the old pieces from the car. There were a few hard to get at spot welds but after that they came out pretty easy.
-The AMD pieces fit nice. The only area that needed a little tweeking was where I will have to splice the A-pillar. The AMD pieces were a little bit higher then the cars profile, but I was able to flatten the AMD part in the vise slightly and now it fits like it should.
-The two smaller pieces in the kit I will not be using since mine are in good condition. However they also look like they would fit good.
-The metal thickness is very close to the originals.
-The holes that are located in the parts match up the same as the orignals for the door hinge bolts.

where do the little pieces go? The curved window channel on my convert are rusted so I was considering these.

:iagree: They fit very well and I did what Lunchbox said  to flatten the AMD part in the vise slightly to make it fit like it should.                                      Nice hint!  Chuck

We just did a 1970 AAR Cuda with a lot of the new parts from AMD.
Excellent stuff. As we have found over the years, no 2 cars are alike, and you might need to tweak some stuff. Nothing major, just minor corrections. We also did a 71 Challenger Convertible, with the OEM quarters, and shaker hood as well as the trunk floor, and cowl side boxes. Very good fit, very good quality.
You will be happy with any of the new stuff, we are.

I just got my inner wheelhouse today.  It looks good and it matches up well with the outer wheelhouse and the trunk floor extension.  Thanks AMD!

I have the 70-71 Tail panel and it seems to be a good piece and fit well on the test fit.

Well I bit the bullet and spent my economic stimulus check on a new AMD cowl. I had been working on my original and it was looking good for awhile but I just wan't happy with the way it was turning out. Since I had good luck with AMD's lower windshield

The product overall was pretty good there were a few issues that bothered me but should be a pretty easy fix.

-The sides of the cowl where it is spot welded to the firewall was different compare to my 70.
-Then bends where the edge of the windsheild sits wern't crips enough to fully seat in the firewall bend.
-The tabs that the dash bolts too, weren't bent at the proper angle.
-It was tought to get all the holes to line up and the cowl sit properly on the car (i.e. a/c hoes, accelerater cable, boster bolts)
-The drain hole located in the center windshield recess is in the wrong place, and a slight amount of water would remain in the recess.

For the most part the cowl was pretty good repo. The defects shouln't be to hard to fix if one wanted.

aren't the VIN numbers stamped in the cowl on E-bodies?  I assume you loose the VIN when you install this?  Do you cut the VIN section out and move it to the new repo piece?

Yes you would loose the body numbers if you went repo. I haven't decided what I am going to do yet.  :clueless:

Lunch,

You are going to town on that car!

Glad to see the progress.
I am equally frustrated with repros. It seems like they are designed as a single unit rather than a system.
ex.( dutchman does not mate to the rear quarter symmetrically, changing the gap tolerance from the quarter to the decklid.)
Does the firewallknow the part it needs to connect to-i.e. the HVAC unit?
I hope these issues arecorrected in futire releases.
I am waiting on door-skins.
