It's Burnt Orange Again!
« on: March 01, 2008 - 04:21:31 PM »
It's been two years since I disassembled the Cuda - been a long wait! I listed my progress previously on this thread:

http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=28551.0.

The body shop manager called and told me to come in this past Thursday - I watched the body get color   :woo:

Had to go to work at noon so I didn't get to see the car in clear but I can already tell the time spent on the body was well worth the result - here are some pics. They tell me the car looks awesome - I'll go check it out on Monday.

Notice the application of seam sealer - the tech was complaining that he had a hard time being sloppy - all to recreate the original assembly style!

Too bad you picked that color......just kidding. :droolingbounce: The car looks great. I don't envy you putting a car back together that has been apart for so long. Good luck. I will be there pretty soon myself. All I can say is thank goodness for this board.

I have always did the opposite . I paint the door on with the shell. That way they will already be adjusted. I would be so scard trying to get those door back on without messing the fenders.

It was a pain in the butt for me when putting the doors on after paint, then they didnt match color exactly, so I had to have it all painted again when it was assembled all the way.

Hey, your car is looking great. It is all fun work now that the tough stuff is done.     I know your proud :2thumbs:

Thanks for the comments! I thought it was odd that they did the color without the doors/hood/trunk but he had a plan.. the clear was shot after all of the parts were assembled minus the rear valance since he felt it was less risky to put in the exhaust system with the valance off. All's well that ends well. I'll be posting pics with the clear on later this week. See y'all then!

Got some shots of the car in clear - it turns out that the shop sprayed clear without putting the doors, hood, etc back on which is not what I expected. I asked why he did it this way and he said he wanted to get clear into all of the nooks and crannies - into the door openings, under trunk flanges, etc. It may not be exactly the way the factory did it but it will afford better protection. I plan to drive the car, not trailer it, so the extra protection will come in handy. Anyway, here are the latest - final sanding and buffing over the next couple of days.
